laurnoble's Reviews (180)

This was a slower read than Henry's other books, and it took me a long time to feel invested in Margaret's story. But it turned into a surprising tear-jerker at the end!

Certainly the strangest Woolf I've read so far. Many parts, particularly the first half, were engaging and hilarious. But it ends in a weird place I frankly didn't understand at all. This might be the kind of book where a little scholarship opens up the story a lot.
adventurous fast-paced

Such a fun romp. Schwab's writing is beautiful and lively, even if she leans on certain turns of phrase more than I would like, and there is not an ounce of dear weight in the tight, fast plot.
dark reflective tense

Starts off really strong with sharp cultural commentary, but the prose (and the story) get wispy and intangible toward the end.
