The entire Winternight Trilogy grips you hard with fiery and icy fingers that refuse to let go even after you set the books down. They are fairytales at their finest.
The Winter of the Witch lifts you up and also smashes your heart on shards of ice - a fitting conclusion to this retelling of Russian folklore.
I highly recommend the whole series.

Alain is simultaneously 8, 18, and 80. Mari's sarcasm will one day get her killed.
That is all.

Talk about a great character centric novel with some awesome magic and steampunk elements. I was pretty hesitant when I started the series, but I'm loving it so far!
I had an internal debate on this book's rating, afterall - the print copies had some glaring typos and format issues. The plot was also fairly predictable.
However, the characters and their interactions are phenomenal! I adore these characters and greatly enjoy the world that has been built around them.
I recommend this entire series to fantasy, steampunk, and sci-fi fans alike!

Sometimes you say "Yes!" to yourself with conviction when you finish almost every page, and then you whisper "noooo" when you run out of pages to turn. This was that kind of book for me.
I would happily hand out copies to anyone with even a passing interest in reading this in hopes of sparking that kind of connection in them. I highly recommend to anyone.
