Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an e-arc of this title.
I overall enjoyed this. It had 50 shades vibes but without some of the problematic stuff in 50 shades. Add dinosaurs and you've got a fun time. There was one aspect that I didn't particularly enjoy. That was something they used as a lube and that wasn't for me, but it does fit the story. I would read from this author again... it was overall a fun time.

I have read a couple of titles from this author before and was very excited to be approved for this one. Moonstone is such a perfect storm of gothic horror, historical vibes, and mystery. Perfectly atmospheric, I was hooked from the first page. Laura Purcell has a very distinct writing style that flows beautifully and is so suited to the historical vibes. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a gothic, mysterious, time. If you're not into historical fiction... I would still recommend this as it was more about the vibes and the plot was interesting enough to distract from that vibe. I would also recommend this to anyone who is new to either gothic and/or horror... it's a good blend of the genres that inspire it so it would be great for those just delving in.

First I want to thank the publisher and Net Galley for giving me access to this e-arc for a review.
There was a lot that I did enjoy about this despite the middling rating. The middling rating might have ended up being a timing issue with when I read it. So to be fair I want to focus my review on the things I liked about it. I enjoyed the world and the writing style... and because of this I will for sure be giving this author another read with a different title. The writing is beautiful and I really did enjoy the magic and the banter between some of the characters. I think I will come back around and try reading this again at a different time as I did like the vivid story telling. However, it did feel a little like I was reading Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries... which I did not enjoy at all. This is why the timing might be the issue as I read Emily Wilde's not very long ago and maybe if there had been more time between it would have been better for me.

I was really looking forward to this and the writing style was good so I will be trying this author out again. However, there were sections of this one that I just didn't care and almost dnf'd at several points. What I did enjoy was the use of metals in the magic system and the way they were using that to make prosthesis.

I don't read a lot of memoirs, but as soon as I read the description for this I knew this would be a vital read for me and in my opinion, many others.
This is a challenging but beautiful read. The honesty of the experience of mental illness, trauma, and challenging family situations made me feel less like a monster. Hearing/reading the experience of the author in connection with fantasy stories, psychology, and in society, allowed me to really think and process mental illness and trauma from my own perspective but also look at it from a sociological view point. This is unique and very well done. There were so many interesting and thought provoking aspects. To name a couple... who are the author's a mentally ill persons story? What's the effects of black and white thinking on the experience of mental illness and the perception of it? Can some mental illness be prevented by changing the reactions to childhood trauma? Should someone who wishes to no longer be alive be allowed to choose assisted death?
I would recommend this to anyone who has mental illness, has friends/family members with mental illness, or wants to be a more understanding human... basically, anyone who is open to reading this absolutely should! However, I would recommend reading when on a resilient day. There are definitely some moments that could be triggering for those that have been through trauma and/or mental illness.
I also really appreciated that K.J. Aiello narrated the audio themselves. There has also clearly been a lot of research and learning happened over a long period of time. There are many sources referenced so it's not a 2 d experience of mental illness. It incorporates personal thoughts and processes, psychological research that helps to explain different aspects, plus interludes into fiction that really explores trauma and mental illness and how we survive.

At first glance this is a pretty typical haunted house story. It has a house that people keep moving into because "they just know it's for them". However, this is all that is typical about this. This is about parent and child who move to a small town after some hardships. Settling into a new town is hard at the best of times but when Ellis is approached by local teens and is warned about the house they have just moved into... they are immediately dismissive. As time goes on though, things change and with elements of found family, and beautifully done queer and plus size rep, balanced with creepy experiences and mystery... this was an immersive experience I can recommend to those either new to the horror genre or those that like a sweet and even cosy (at times) mixed in with their spooky vibes. Beautifully descriptive and even the ghosts are believable!!

It took me a little while to fully get into this one. Once I was though it was such a fun time. I think what made it difficult at first was the sound of the female main character sounded whiny... however, once I adjusted the speed I was listening at it was better and then as the plot progressed I became more interested in her as a character. I also think it was a good mix of raunchy scenes to plot. The raunch was pretty good too. I am looking forward to reading on in the series.
This was cute and fun to read but had a little fatphobia in there so it dropped the rating.
I enjoyed it but don’t think I’ve got much of a philosophical brain tbh. I understand why it was my Mum’s favourite though. It was bitter sweet thinking about how she would have reacted to different parts of the story and the whimsical look she would have on her face when she was reading it.
