Man that was a struggle to get through. The most boring and predictable couple since they had no real obstacles to their being in a relationship. The fight against Nerezza was very short and sweet both times because the main characters were either out of it or not there for most of it. So as a reader we got to hear about it after the fact. bleh

Meh. I just don't care anymore after the reveal in the beginning.

Twas good. Not my fave in the series but good. It was interesting and random so felt sort of like a filler episode in a TV series. The explanation for how the new tri-city dynamic was set up was very helpful. The entire story shows how things should work now. In fact, I think that's literally the point of this book. Mercy gets kidnapped so that other supernatural beings and us the readers can see how the partnership with Adam as leader and protector of the humans, will work. And how everyone else connected or adjacent to it will respond as well. The little Bran twist at the end was funny. Mercy's side of things beyond being a plot device is just Mercy being Mercy finding random trouble wherever she goes. She dies wind up exploring and learning a bit more about her powers though. We get to meet Marcilia's sire whose been mentioned before so that was interesting. But yeah, not a book necessary to the series. One could skip this and still know what's going on in the next one.

I actually did not finish this. It wasn't bad, just not my cup of tea. It was all good until I got to the

zombies

early on and I lost all interest, lol.

I didn't finish it because its been too long since reading the first book. I am so confused and not in the right mindset to fully immerse myself. So I'll come back to this later.

I really need like a flow chart for all the characters in this universe every time I read a new book. Kind of a slow beginning but picks up about halfway through. We actually got a clue as to wtf is going on in the epilogue though it also brings up more questions. I also think Sherri needs to explain better how all these beings fit into a hierarchy of power. She played up Acheron and Savitar too well for decades for me to easily swallow beings with the power to hide from them easily. It could be just me though.

I hadn't been paying attention so had no idea this books had come out. This is not your usual Nora Roberts fair. Dystopian is a whole new world for her and I think the main focus is on a child not in any romance. This is darker and maybe even more graphic than anything she's done outside of the In Death series. Also, there's a ton of characters. But still all in her writing style. Still the good vs evil magic with an added element of bigoted non-magic people. Still a diverse cast of character skills. There's an attempt at cultural and racial diversity which is kinda flat. Even so all her usual elements seem bigger here. And it looks like the plot timeline is going to be much longer than her usual as well. But overall this book had me hooked in a way Nora Roberts hasn't been able to do in decades. This was a good book.
