An action packed volume at first that calms down and then gets kinda ridiculous again. Not in a bad way. Some new characters again. I think that's my biggest issue with this series. So many characters. But the character reference in the front helps keep track of the main ones. I don't know where this is going to go now. New "magical" element and level introduced as well. I'm not sure what is going on but neither are the residents of the mud whale so, lol. I'm along for the ride.

In literal tears at the end of this. Man, what a ride. I did not love the way everything wrapped up here but I loved enough. One thing I am disappointed by, I think would have broken me if they had written it any differently. Overall, I feel like the series could have taken more time with certain things. But for what we got, it was amazingly told. The writing had me on the edge of my seat. And I was invested in this family. Special shout out to Rufus. 

Well then. Finally a full picture of the past as far as their father and his friends are concerned is finally here. But now what? I also still want more info on the ancestors before him considering what some of them did. And where did this door come from? 

Also am I the only one struggling to picture this as a place in new england. The house and its position next to the ocean (?) has me always think in west coast. It may jut be the ocean on the left makes me think pacific rather than Atlantic. 

Anyway, I'm hooked. Flew through this one quicker. Enjoyed it more than the previous. MY fave in the series.

I think this is my favorite of the volumes so far. The mystery was the most intriguing and Goldie dealing with relationship issues that force her to take a look at how she does things made it a step up. And here I thought volume 3 couldn't be topped.
