Read it twice. Had to because the first time I didn't understand everything, especially the psychological analysis by Wincott. All in all, this book is great but very heavy and very personal.

again full of mysterious mysteries and maximied friendship! wheeeee!

weird but in a good way

I liked the writing style. Always a bit musing, thinking, often stream of consciousness. many stories deal with relationships of all kinds. the tone is almost always quite melancholic, even depressive at times. so beware if you cant deal with that. at times Miranda July weaves a comic relief into the story. I'm looking forward to reading a novel by her to see if it holds up on a longer story.

a fine line between tragic and comic, between sad and funny. the slightly disturbing but sometimes cute but mostly weird art adds to that. nice take on the art scene in big cities. I liked it.

a bit underwhelmed to be honest. while I enjoyed the overall mafia storyline, I felt like the super villains were tossed in randomly just to give them all a appearance. the gothy art style fits batman and the villains but the surroundings and "average" people seem too bulky and over the top.

borrow the book from a friend if you can or get a cheap second hand copy, but don't spend a lot of money on it.

what bugged me the most:

---SPOILER---

for batman being the world's greatest detective it is rather embarrassing that he didn't solve any of the problems. until the end he suspected the wrong people to be the holiday killer.

this is not just another take on the the "spider-man origin story" just with a rat. there's a lot of meta going on (which I am a sucker for) and there is quite the sadhappy ending.

the cover is a bit misleading. I thought this would be an ensemble story of the ladies but it's more a story about ali baba finding a (lesser) djin in the bottle. wouldn't be a probleem but the story was a bit boring and had nothing new for me.

solid Science Fiction story. a bit foreseeable. establishes a good basis. lacks something special. progrssion is jumpy. artwork a bit too cleancut and generc for m taste and without highlights.
