One of my grandma’s favourite artists, and she always said I remind her of the woman. So, I had to borrow her copy of this. Obviously. I’m also seeing her in the fall (my gran’s idea!) so that’s fun.

DNF’d halfway through, sorry folks.

But it was a learning experience: I’ve decided I don’t like dark academia. Everyone speaks in quips and deep quotes constantly, and no one even likes each other.

It’s weird because I loved the starless sea, which I saw get similar complaints on its writing style. I guess the difference is that… in that book they liked each other and sometimes the quips were even at their own expense. here, I just feel like I’ve been dropped into a dating sim where I’m supposed to be in love with everyone…

I want to be the kind of person that can believe my celestial eternal soul from space or whatever chose the struggles I have, but I can’t, so I don’t think this book is for me.

Hearing about the context this has and its proximity to the AIDS crisis makes my skin crawl.

A book that makes you want to cry, hug your mom, play music, and eat all at once. Dear god this was gorgeous and heartwrenching.

A little dense, but I guess fitting such a colourful world in such a short story, that’s a consequence to be expected. Sick as hell, though.

good to know that despite the 20-year-gap between our protagonist’s story and my own, Vancouver gays are still unhinged. a bit meandering, but I put up with it because every time it namedropped a street I knew I got stupidly happy.

i know logically this isn’t a five star book—at least plot/pacing wise for light—but also brevity and hero and claire are so delightful this book is gonna with me
