lambsbooks's Reviews (1.4k)

Well, this was spicy and bloody and fun. I’m excited to see how this series will progress

"When I made you food, you complained about the ingredients."
"I was teasing! And you cooked for anyone who was around."
He shook his head. "I cooked for you. They just benefited from being nearby."

Loved this just as much as the first 🥺

I don't know if it was the audiobook (it was not recorded well) or the fact that I was confused about literally everything, but I'm not sure I enjoyed these all that much 🫠

I read the 3 prequel ones, I'll read Angels Wolf after book 3, and I feel like nothing made sense. Like I should have waited to read this after I read some of the main books?

I dunno how I feel 🥴

“Promise me you’ll fight on my side. Don’t give me a repeat of the arena.”
“I promise,” Anton says. “I will be your first solider.”
“My general.”
“Your general,” he confirms. “Rise for me, Princess.”

Oh yes, I loved this one just as much as the first. There are no good people in this. Everyone is morally grey lmao

Also, a cliffhanger, why do you hate us so, Chloe?

“Look at me,” she commands. “Swear your devotion when you come.”
“I swear it. You are my place of worship. I swear it.”

This trilogy is gonna break my fucking heart.

Books on spaceships are just *perfect*

I dunno why I love that setting, I just do lmao

So, the plot, the pacing, the characters, the sci-fi-ness, I loved it all. I was super happy with how it moved at what felt like a good pace, nothing was rushed and everything was well explained and not dragged out.

We have our group of ex-soldier humans, Tavi (our FMC), Elias, Kee, Anja, and Lexi, hired by their enemies, the alien race they all fought against in an intergalactic war. Tavi is rightfully worried about taking this job, hunting down something stolen from General Torran Fletcher, because she has a bounty on her head from his species. But the money is just too good so our humans take off with Torran, Varro, Chira, Havil, and eventually, Nilo to find what was taken.

*chaos ensues*

I loooved Tavi and Torran together, they were both so stubborn but had great tension! And Torran had telekinetic powers that he used on Tavi, powers that were fun for spicy times *invisible hands* so that was unexpected but amazing 🙌

I'm excited to keep reading this series, see where our characters go next, and for them to keep hunting bad guys.

“You have an amazing gift. You’re destined to be the center of the local paranormal community. You have main character energy. Why would you hide it?”

I was mostly enjoying this, nothing great or anything, until the 55-60% mark when it all went downhill. At least it took me a while to see who was behind the mystery aspect of this, so I guess there’s that.

Cam was a fucking idiot. I can’t even describe how much he annoyed me. Everything had to be about him. I didn’t like Al at the beginning because I thought they were just leaving Cam behind because he was human, but then I was like, nah, Al is right, Cam is super annoying and selfish. I mean, Al wasn’t great either, I don’t consider them a good friend to Cam. lmao just overall not nice people

Gemma and Kaci were nice, no real issue with them. Mateo was just a blank love interest. Absolutely nothing to him.

Every other character was mostly one-dimensional, and I’ve forgotten them already.

This was so young 🫠🫠 I know that’s a me problem but I was cringing a lot with how…cringy… all the high school scenes were and some of the things they said and thought. The way everything was handled, the reveal, it was so young. So stereotypical evil or so easy to follow along with, no thinking required. There was especially no thinking on Cam's part BECAUSE I-D-I-O-T.

If you are a under 14 year old human, you may enjoy this more than I did. So take that into consideration.

If you are 14+, eh, maybe don’t bother 🥲

A big thank you to Simon and Schuster for an eARC and a physical ARC!

“There are those who die in fire and those who thrive in it.”

I am empty

“You do not get to decide your worth to someone else. Only they do.”

That is my dead body on the ground over there. Lifeless.

Honestly, how dare this book?

In this realm, knowledge is power, and no one knows better than I the danger of being powerless.

I don’t really even know where to start with this review. I think I experienced every emotion while reading this, and she thicc, so there was lots of time to experience everything lmao

It’s a game, lives being weighed and discarded as chess pieces, all in pursuit of the final objective. The capture of the white queen.

I kinda hurt now. Summer was such a beautiful character. I fucking hated her at times and loved her other times and hurt with her, connected with her, cried with her. She felt the highs and the lows so strongly, with her loud thoughts, her loneliness and terror.

Are Alice and I cut from similar cloths, full of torn pieces we desperately stitched together, hoping no one would notice how mismatched they are?

Summer and Alice are peak besties and I need more friendships in books

Connor hooks his finger under my chin and gently tilts my head up so I meet his gaze. Oh, you smooth fucker. “Be my date.”

The men in this book. WHERE DO I EVEN START?? Connor, the Headmaster, the Stranger, Max, Rafe. Just to name a few.

“How was the golden dude?”
“The golden dude tried to make me eat a sandwich mid-makeout.”
Alice snorts. “Is that code for his dick?”
“What? No. He wanted me to eat an actual sandwich.”

Don’t even talk to me about the end. I need 3-5 business days to process that, followed by a 3-week vacation and tears.

“I’m always proud of you, babe. But I want you to be proud of you.”

The amount of highlights and notes I took throughout this. Unless you spell it out, I will miss hints and such, so imagine, for a second, how USELESS I was in trying to figure out the Strangers identity, literally flipped back and forth 50 million times, and he has a pierced peen, so end game please. And then this made me feel bad for Connor, and my mind was just as loud as Summer's while reading this.

“Well, I saw this girl at this party and all I could think was, Her. She is the reason I didn’t date before.”

Go into this book blind, you’ll thank me for it. Just know that it’s a dark academia/romantasy with lots of spice, mystery, hot men, murderous besties, and lots of magic, angels, shifters, vampires, and fae.

I sigh and turn back to my salad, getting more and more irate at the stupid fucking angel sitting across from me. One second, he’s smothering me, and the next he’s ignoring me? The fucking gall. Pick a lane.

Thank you so much to the authors for this eARC and (when it arrives) PR box!

“Take anything you want, love. Take from me until I have nothing left to give. I am devoted to you. Everything I have is yours to take.”

We open this book in a dungeon with some torture.

"Are you so willing to sacrifice Verena for this cause that you are unwilling to save her for it?”

It doesn't get happier lmao

“I am drowning in my want for you, and there is no room inside me for fear. Take from me, touch me. Feed your body with what yearns for you. I would ruin every part of me to give to you.”

Dacre, Venera, and Co are still fighting to end the oppression led by her father, the King, but there is a light at the end of the long tunnel. Venera has powers, what will she do with them?

“You’re asking me to choose between this rebellion and my mate, but I already chose. I wouldn’t care if it was poison that runs through her veins, I will still choose her.”

Dacre was once again the star of the show. Venera was kinda like a wet rag in this one. She just cried and asked for someone to save her for the first, like, 60-70%. lmao I know that's harsh and I hate shitting on the FMC in a book. I find that a ton of people do it in reviews and it always reads as internal misogyny when I see women hating women because of certain traits (this is like a whole other dicussion, what the fuck am I saying here?) but I needed Verena to be stronger. I needed more from her. Dacre was fighting to the death practically to get to her and she's just crying. Yes, she's being tortured but like, the king had nothing over you to keep you there and submissive…so why didn't you fight back? She did slightly improve but I guess I had this problem with book 2 as well.

“I need to be inside you,” he growled. “I need to fuck you until there is no one left in this kingdom who will question who you belong to.”

Holly is literally the queen of quotable quotes lmao I always include too many but I also left out so many I wanted to include.

But Dacre and his devotion, his worship, was perfect. He literally went through hell to get her back and never once let up.

“We made it back. You’re safe. And I will burn this fucking world to the ground before I let anything happen to you again.”

I was so happy Wren and Kai were in this! I missed them.

The background on the kingdom was interesting, as was the involvement of certain mothers and the reveals *cries in fantasy*

Overall, it wrapped up the trilogy nicely, I don't think there were any major loose ends, which are the worst kind of ends, so that was great.

Thank you so much to Holly and Lauren for this eARC and (when it arrives) PR Box!

“After all this time, your fate has not bled you dry of it? You still have not learned that love cannot conquer all?”

This was poetic, whimsical, magical, and time-bending.

“I will always be yours. But I gave up the right to call you mine a long time ago.”

What would you do if the love of your life killed you before your 18th birthday? What would you do if you reincarnated and history repeated? Your love finds you before your 18th birthday and kills you again? Over and over for a thousand years. Losing mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters, losing everything except your love over the millennia. Arden knowing nothing but Evelyn for a thousand years. Evelyn having no memory of why Arden was doing this.

“You have faith in all of humanity. You have faith in love. Please, have faith in me. I do this to protect you. Do you understand that? That I would lay my body over yours, war after war after war, life after life after life?”

I loved the concept of soul love in this. Loved love, yeah, I’m using that word too much. Anyway. Soul love for Arden and Evelyn was that no matter what body they wore in each life, man/woman, their souls loved each other. Evelyn didn’t identify with one gender over the other, whatever body Evelyn was in was acceptable. Arden did prefer a male body but also didn’t have to many objections when they were female. Love existed beyond the physical.

“If a hero is someone who will give up love to save the world, then a villain is the reverse. Someone who will give up the world to save love.”
“So you’re a villain. You admit it.”
He shrugged. “There’s no line I wouldn’t cross to keep a loved one safe.”

Our Infinite Fates was a test.

A test of time.

Of fate.

Of love.

Of death.

Of my patience.

It was a great concept, I actually LOVE this concept, the killing over lifetimes, over and over finding each other, but the flashbacks got old fast. I know they were mostly important to the story but I got bored.

“I love you, and I have loved you, and I will love you.”

I was enjoying it, aside from the too many flashbacks, until the end, like 85% in, where I just... what happened?? Like, a pyramid scheme? Really? And the very end? I don’t really like open-ended endings.

But you know, overall, really enjoyable!

Thank you so much to Wednesday Books and the author for an eARC and a gorgeous PR box!

This sounds tragic.

Sign me the fuck up.

“Thank you for weathering this storm with me. I know this hasn’t been easy.”
“Loving you is worth it.”

This was a fun and emotional, second-chance romance from the queen of hockey romance! Lexi and Roman meet at a baseball game and have a weekend of “Caramel drizzle dick is my favorite” fun only to separate for 3 years. The next time they meet?

My entire world inverts. Because the woman of my dreams—the one who disappeared without so much as a goodbye note—just became my fucking boss.

🤭🤭

The grief and found family in this book was really a highlight for me. There were times I had to put the book down and *breath* because Lexi was hurting and I was hurting.

Owner of my fucking body. Provider of magical orgasms. Biggest dick I’ve ever had the pleasure of trying (and failing) to deep throat. But my effort was applauded, appreciated, and rewarded with more multiple orgasms than I’ve ever received in a weekend.

This was a power dynamics book. Lexi was Roman’s coach and in a supervisor/boss position but in the bedroom 👀 *the tables have turned* so the spice was spicing 🔥

Thank you to Helena and Sarah for this ARC!
