But what the princess never expected was the touch of an enemy thawing the ice in her heart, a kingdom of cutthroats becoming home, and a prince of nightmares loving the monster in the mists.

How to snare a husband – threaten to kill him.
While I haven’t read The Broken Kingdoms series yet, it’s on my want to buy list and this book just made me wish I’d win the lottery so I could just buy them all and binge them! Soon, wallet, soon you will cry.
“Mistake my wife for yours again and I’ll kill you. Understand?”
The Mist Thief is a spin-off of The Ever Seas duology, which I’ve read, and is in turn a spin-off of The Broken Kingdom series. So if you’re looking for a binge worthy set, this is 12 books you can read straight through lmao
“I have no thoughts.” My voice was low, a soft rasp. “What would be the point?”
The Mist Thief
Skadi was such a sad creature! Like, she was incredibly strong but the shit she’s been through, not fair. She was so hesitant of her powers and people and I love how the fae brought her out of her shell and her head – allowed her to actually live.
“That fae did not touch you, but I saw your eyes, your reaction. Someone has touched you and not kindly.” I tugged on her bottom lip with my thumb. “I’ll be needing a name…If he is still breathing, I would like to change that, Wife.”
The Nightmare
Jonas. The Nightmare Prince. I love him. I love how quickly obsessed he becomes of Skadi, and how much he did for her, helped her, how much he cared about his family and kingdom.
Here, darkness was beautiful.
Here, we schemed.
Here, family didn’t mean blood.
Here, was home.
The found family aspect for Skadi was so beautiful 😭 Watching her realize that how she grew up wasn’t normal, wasn’t right or nurturing or loving but wrong. Seeing the interactions between all of them was so heart warming. The birthday heist!! That was so cute!! I was creepily grinning the entire time.
She wanted her fire to remain doused, little did she know her husband had plans to fan the flames until we were both set ablaze.
Thank you to the author for sending me a PR box with a physical ARC! You can find my unboxing post here!

“I’m protective of my friends. Especially the ones who’ve been hurt…I wasn’t prepared for how badly you’d been hurt.”

Friends, Donnie realized. That’s what Richard Merriweather needed. That’s why he’d come to Sapphire Cove. Because one of his oldest friends had promised him new ones to replace the ones who’d betrayed him.
I thought this was going to be a light romance, like, the cover is a dude on a beach, but there were lots of emotions and pain, hurt and mystery and it was really great! Not the pain and hurt 😂 but the growth and development of the characters that came out it.
"I mean, for Christ’s sake, he was slipping out of bed with me on vacation and going into the bedrooms of our friends and we were all having breakfast together the next morning and I had no clue. Like all around me there’d been this secret."
Past relationships absolutely broke both Richard and Donnie, Richard and his cheating douche husband and Donnie and his past boyfriend/man who groomed him and attempted to pimp him out. And they were pretty sad characters because of it, which showed in their inability to trust people and relationships. But because of this, I really enjoyed them together!
“Do you usually stroll the hotel in your underwear?”
Donnie shrugged. “Everyone’s out cold. Besides, the security guy on tonight used to work for me. Naked.” Donnie smiled.
Okay, but this was spicy and I didn’t expect it lmao The role-play scene ohmagawd
“Come here and kiss me, jackass, before you say something crude that ruins it.”
“You brought up my dick.”
“How could I not? It’s everywhere all the time all at once.”

“I would never lie about how sexy you are. Sex is my business. It would be a violation of the Smutocratic Oath.”
Thank you to Pride Tours, 1001 Dark Nights & Blue Box Press, and the author for providing me with a physical ARC!

The story was good but the narrator for Ami was annoying 😅
Sometimes, if you want to save other people, you need to remember to save yourself first.

I met the priest's eyes. I had never liked doing that; it didn't come naturally to me. I hated trying to figure out the unspoken rules about how long you were supposed to look and how often you were supposed to blink. I always got it wrong. According to Marguerite, I tended to overcompensate by staring into people's eyes too directly, which made them uncomfortable.
Just kidding, I never know when to shut up.
Also, that quote ^ is me. I was always told it’s rude to not look people in the eyes even though I hate it and now I don’t know how to look away. One of us will die before I look away.
Perhaps the decisions that shaped the course of history weren’t made in scenes worthy of stories and tapestries, but in ordinary places like these, driven by desperation and doubt.
This was beautiful.
I loved all the characters and the plot. The neurodivergent characters. Everything was perfect.

Okay, I hated every character except Noah. Didn’t even like Arianna. Cam was some dumb blonde (whose nickname for Ari was “bitch”), Mason was annoying and sexist with his obsessive protection, Brady was nothing, Chase was a disgusting, cowardly pig that I hated. Am I missing anything!?
Oh, the accident and then drama near the end… nah.
Noah deserved better.
The dialogue between the 5 friends read like an alien came to earth and tried to find the most cringey phrases to speak normal human language. No one talks like that.
There was also a scene I really try to avoid in books and I didn’t know it was in this one and I didn’t like it.

Every character was monstrous and I loved it.
I also cried twice because HOW DARE YOU KARINA 😭

The mental health aspect was the only reason this rating isn’t lower. I didn’t hate a good chunk of this book, even tho this review is negative, but what I did like was overshadowed by all the stuff I didn’t.
The obsessive use of “Mike Martin” made me want to rip my hair out. WHY DOES SHE ALWAYS CALL HIM BY HIS FULL NAME!?
The amount of Canadian stereotypes in this book was unending. Just stop. How is this author Canadian!? She wrote about Canada like an American and I hated it.
The third breakup act. JESUS CHRIST. How stupid was that!? There was no betrayal, there was nothing but two overreacting adult children.

"My little dove. My sweet, baby dove, flying away from me. How could my little dove do that? How could you fly away, beating your wings and never returning home?"
Where was the plot?
I couldn’t find a plot.
Even at 66% I was unsure of what the plot was?
What was the reason for this story?
I don’t think I’ve ever not been able to follow a plotline like this, and that’s not a compliment. It wasn't twists and turns and surprises, it was just confusion. If I had to write a summary on this book, I wouldn't even know what to say. The main character was really unlikeable. She was selfish, self-centered, and pretty stupid (like, it was right in from of you the entire time!!), so that made this even harder to read. I had much higher hopes, especially for some sort of romance, but nope.
Thank you to the publisher (that needs to get their shit together) for sending me an eARC and a signed finished copy.
