I loved this. It touched on the themes of grief, memory, family history, and racial justice. I think it reads more like litfic than horror, but I really enjoyed it in spite of or maybe because of this.

This started slow for me but by the end all I could say was " wow, wow, wow." This is a powerful story around themes of ancestry, family history, family lineage, grief, and racial justice. I loved it! It does have a love triangle but its a well done love triangle.

This book is a game changer for how I conceptualize rest and grind culture. 4 stars because it got repetitive.

The writing is exquisite. I think this could be read as one big allegory for abusive relationships with each of the "sires" representing a different part of one victim. One represents Constanta's inner child, the other represents the darker side of Constanta, and then the main consciousness is in Constanta's POV. That's my fun little interpretation anyway.

I understand that this book is criticized as problematic around issues of indigenous children in Canada so I can't in good conscience give it five stars. I did enjoy the story, especially those sweet kiddos.

DNF after the first few chapters. Nothing particular wrong with it--the writing style just isn't for me.
funny lighthearted fast-paced

DNF just under half way. Wasn't feeling it. Found the writing too cheesy for my taste. But I hope someone else loves it, and if you do, I'm happy for you.
dark fast-paced

One of the darkest, most disturbing books I've read, but it's important that it exists.

Unhinged. That is the best word Jessa Kane's novellas. They are unhinged and ENTERTAINING. And the smut. There was a sexorcism. That is all. lol.

This book won't work for a lot of people, but it worked for me. This is a low plot, all the vibes, character driven novel. It hits themes of family history, family legacy, witch hunts, women's connection to nature, fragile masculinity, misogyny, the divine feminine, and the power of storytelling. Check your triggers--there are a lot.
