This was a very odd one. The protagonist, on the one hand, is one of the most disturbing and well -wrought characters I've ever read. The plot, on the other hand, is so thin that it's almost transparent. The whole book builds up to this dreadful act, and then, when it comes, it's really not that dreadful at all. It just didn't work for me as a narrative climax. Plot aside, this was a dark and immersive read. Really a masterclass in narrative voice.
