You can see the competence of the writer pouring through the pages. She's done her research, used her brain and written with her heart.
HOWEVER! I had to spend the first 5 min of finishing this book screaming and throwing a temper tantrum like a 5 year old. For both good and bad reasons
I AM NOT OKAY WITH THE CHOICE SHE MADE AT LAST!!!
I normally don't give a damn about the romance and I don't here, but even then I can see the ridiculous choice you made, Bruh bsfr
BUUUT
The plot of this one had me ping ponging more than the first book. In a good way of course, I had to reconsider my theories each chapter. If that's me and my bad theories, we will never know. Now I'll be frank, I'm an easy reader, I'm not figuring out the puzzle, im relying on the characters to do that for me, I ain't decoding nothing or solving any riddles. So I might be an easy pray, I enjoy that.
Great lore, gruesome depictions in a YA way ofc. And even tho this is YA, it doesn't have that much of the YA cringe-ness as most YA. Good filled action in this book as well, even tho it's short. So over all, real good. I'm pleased EVEN THO SHE SOULD RECONSIDER HER FINAL CHOICE YOU LITTLE!~#¥~π√~++(#+@(#!¢¥£¥_!&+(@+@+¢¥¢°$&+(#(@¢{¥°¢=!

10/5 i love this, Cardan's reasoning and story telling is flawless and silly. I felt like i was frolicking through this book, but I frolicked through a few thorn bushes too.
Seeing Cardan's story, childhood and point of view made a lot make sense, have a deeper meaning and a different opinion on a few characters.
As well as seeing Cardan's and Jude's domestic moments, it made my heart cry. Just a deep rusting sob coming from my heart.

There's very little to say about the Percy Jackson series, besides it being amazing. It's such a breeze of fun to read, with such good lore, character, plot and writing.
You can either take it superficially or nerd it and it's amazing either way (ofc better when you enter the depths of the fandom)

I don't care much for the actual smut, but foreplay was funny, and Josh is an icon, can't help but love his adorable dumb(incredibly smart) ass

Complicated
This is a thrilling, dark puzzle that pulls you in, but doesn’t overstay its welcome. It's just heavy enough to make you think, but light enough to breeze through in one sitting.
This isn’t just a crime novel — it’s a masterclass in psychology. Every character is a puzzle piece, each with their own unique quirks and instincts that make them brilliantly unpredictable.
And that ending???
This is such a light book to get through (it's incredibly dark, murderous and bloody, and just overall heavy, BUT) it's such a good palette cleanser. Imagine Ur favourite psychology or criminal show. This is it. Just YA.
This is Beth before she found chess. (The Queen’s Gambit) – all brilliance, no board, just instincts.
This is Sherlock without the pipe — or the patience. (Sherlock) – all deduction, less ego (barely).
This is Bones, if Booth never showed up. (Bones) – genius in a lab, but this one’s on her own.
This is House before the bitterness set in. (House M.D.) – still brilliant, still blunt, just not yet scowling at interns.
This is Shawn if he dropped the psychic act and got serious. (Psych) – all instinct, no pineapple.
This is what happens when Reid isn’t the only prodigy in the room. (Criminal Minds) – same genius, but this one doesn’t need ten cups of coffee.
This is Morgan if someone handed her a badge before the kids and chaos. (High Potential) – brilliance unchecked, solving crimes with nothing but gut instinct and a very loud brain.
This is Cal Lightman if someone raised him on empathy instead of ego. (Lie to Me) – still reading faces like cheat codes, just with fewer grudges and slightly better manners.
This is Dean if the ghosts were in people’s heads. (Supernatural) – same gut instincts, same trust issues, but now he’s profiling killers instead of stabbing demons.

There's something so good with Kaaberbøl. Something about her writing style, her story telling, her character traits and life hidden in her books. It's so fun and intriguing to read anything and everything from her.
One thing I will always praise her for is he constant diversity. Always respect and POC characters in such a normal way, ways most people make obviously unnatural. Then there's the power dynamics, which she breaches in this new world. She's always generous in writing women, never shallow and pick me, or a man's toy. She writes women so well, where sadly most fantasy books fall short.
This would be a book (and auther) I would consistently trust in the hands of kids, I'd proudly recommend it, in hopes they'll feel love for this realisms in an otherwise Fantasyland.
Kids might not be old enough to comprehend and adults might skim it through because it's a kid book. But if you take Ur time and effort and focus it on this you'll see the way she writes is incredibly realistic, her characters, her land, her storytelling. Not shallow and superficial like most modern clichés.
She'll explain casual and real and it mostly passes you by, because you are stuck on the plot and the characters, I guess she's smooth with it.
One thing she does incredibly well is her epiphany way of writing feelings and thoughts.

- In her stomach a great beast turned, a beast of both fear and anger, with claws that tore and stabbed, and bristles that pricked. She knew that beast so well that she saw it clearly in her mind: It had a snout and fangs like a wild boar, and it was yellow. It lay in her belly like a child in its mother's womb and could not come out.
Like would you look at that, imagine being a child and not knowing ur own emotions.
And that's without talking about this specific book. The story is riveting, even as I'm an adult now, rereading my 3rd grade favourite book. The trauma Kat is served is severe, she's a badass and an icon forsure. It's not epic Fantasy but it's still attention grabbing. And to ofc remember how graciously backstory of the land is included.
The silver horse mythical explanation, the dynamics and character development, the drama??? Hello??? Sometimes i forget this is a kids book XD
I'm so looking forward to her journey and future.
