As a reader of many cozy mysteries, I was looking forward to reading this book, especially since it was pet themed. However, I could not connect to the characters or plot in this book. I felt the writing was "choppy" and was not successful in creating suspense in the story. I believe that with greater character development and better writing, this series could be better.

I would read the 2nd one in the series to see if it gets better.
