Out There is a fun and refreshing short story collection! The collection was bookended by two stories about "Blots", artificial people created by Russian hackers to date women on Tinder and steal their data. These were Black Mirror-esque stories with a lot of heart and were some of my favorites of the book. Others were funny, touching, or rife with body horror. A great collection with a lot of variety! I look forward to reading more work by Kate Folk.

Good, good book. Not hard sci-fi which is a plus for me, with lots of noir and elements of horror. It was very cinematic, I imagined the scenes vividly. It's easy to see why it was made into a series. (Mixed feelings on whether I'll watch the show. I saw an episode previously and wasn't that into it not knowing anything about the book.)

Both protagonists had very engaging stories. I would finish a Miller chapter and want to hurry back to find out what was going on with him, and by the time I finished a Holden chapter I felt the same way about him. I raced through it surprisingly fast for a 550+ page book. Not sure what characters to expect going forward in the series, but regardless I am looking forward to reading the second book.
