You May Now Kill the Bride is a dark comedy but light thriller about five childhood bffs, two in the group are getting married and all the drama and murders that happen in between. We start off at the first bachelorette party where the bride is killed and all of the attendees are suspect. The murders continue and everyone seems to have a motive. This is like gossip girl if they were older and more murderous. There’s flashbacks between the groups high school days and the present, involving a secret incident that they all agreed to keep quiet about that suddenly comes to light. There’s multiple POVs but I found it was a little tricky to keep track of all the characters and because there were so many they weren’t all developed. Some parts of the book were predictable but I didn’t guess who the killer was in the end. Overall this was a fast paced and fun read, but I wasn’t overly invested in the characters.

You May Now Kill the Bride is publishing on May 14. Thanks to NetGalley, Kate Weston and Random House Publishing Group for this e-ARC.

Billie Levine is back! She’s trying to slow things down but taking a break from running her own investigation practice and working under someone else. She’s working small cases, including delivering subpoenas but this lands her in the middle of a murder investigation after she discovers a body. The murder investigation ties into the complex black market art world and her boyfriend winds up being the top suspect.

I thought this was a great follow up to Death of a Dancing Queen. There were a ton of twist and turns in this story, and I liked that we got more insight into Billie. I thought the new characters were interesting but I would have liked to see a bit more from the characters we already knew. I didn’t guess a single thing that unfolded in this story, each reveal was a complete shock to me. I also enjoyed the representation of anxiety and panic attacks, I thought it was very well done. I wasn’t as invested in the crime as I was in the first book but I still liked it. I’m really hoping there will be a third book coming soon

I love murder mysteries set in sleepy towns and this was no exception. Berit Gardner is an author who recently moved to Great Diddling, a town dependent on tourist traffic and the few locals. While attending her first event and meeting the locals, someone is murdered! Berit gets involved in investigating and attempting to solve the murder. All of the characters were interesting and distinct, I liked getting to know all the townspeople. I don’t normally like multiple POVs but I thought it was well done and provided a lot of information here. The setting was immersive and was a great addition to the cozy vibes. I thought the story had great moments of comedy and I enjoyed the mystery as well. I was guessing until the very end

Molly wakes up after a night out not remembering anything, initially it’s not too bad, bit of a hangover no biggie. First there’s a strange man in her bed, then she finds out an embarrassing video of her has gone viral for terrible reasons and then she finds out her friend is dead. Makes you think twice about what you do the next time goes out. The book then continues, Hangover style, as Molly has to piece together what happened while she was out of it.
First off, I would check your trigger warnings. I felt terrible for Molly and also immediately connected to her. I wanted so badly to help her through her awful viral moment since it seemed she had no one in her corner. While this is, technically, a fun read it still made me think about how horrible some people can be when they’re anonymous on the internet. The mystery aspect wasn’t overly complex but I enjoyed it and I was still surprised by the ending. This was fast paced and I kept thinking about getting back to it when I wasn’t reading it

I really enjoyed this and if you like any kind of detective show I think you would like it too. In Death of a Dancing Queen we follow Billie a rookie P.I hired to find a missing college student, but the case has some eerie similarities to a murder that took place in 1991. There’s a lot going on in Billies personal life and her case just keeps snowballing into something bigger. We have rival gang families, stolen diamonds, returning ex boyfriends and more. I liked Billie as a character and although she made some mistakes (why does she never have backup?!) she was pretty savvy. She’s described as being similar to Veronica Mars, which I haven’t seen but the comparison makes me want to watch it. The overall story did have a lot to it, and a lot of moving pieces but I thought it all wrapped up nicely. Nothing felt too extraneous and I’m excited for the next book now that we have all this groundwork out of the way.
