Lolita

Vladimir Nabokov

DID NOT FINISH: 11%

Way too laborious for me to get through... Kinda disappointed too, because I feel like this one is very hyped up as a classic. I just had to stop myself cause I was getting into a gigantic reading slump because of this book.

The Handmaid's Tale

Margaret Atwood

DID NOT FINISH: 21%

What I read of it was increadable. One of the casualties of a massive reading slump caused by stress etc. . Had to deliver it back before I could finish.

So, I read this for class. I don't know if I would have read this book on my own, but I am glad I did read it and I will probably reread it sometime in the future. The writing is beautiful and this is a story I guess you never really forget reading. At least for me, the ending was very predictable, but you stick around because you don't want to believe it before the words slide in front of your eyes in black and white. Then you can't really believe it either, so you just have to carry on and stay pondering...

A very gruesome but beautiful regard to our understanding of what is innocent and what existential power over fellow creatures humans give ourselves the right to perform.

If you're into mecha science fiction and feminism, THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU.

For me, a person who's favorite genre is not science fiction with a lot of world building, the plot and all the fighting action scenes bored me to be honest. On the contrary, did I find the romance and exploration of themes such as feminism, sexuality, polygamy, gender roles etc. FAR more intreguing. However the romance and interpersonal conflicts and relationships wasn't as explored as I might would have hoped in a book almost the length of 400 pages. That is a main reason why this book dragged a little for me. In addition was the writing a little too dense in my opinion and the pacing a little off.

But still considering all of this, I need to state that this book is an impressive debut from a young person.
I will call this an original and severely interesting idea that could have been executed better.
Of course is the star rating also influenced by my personal taste in genre and theme.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I am not sure it was what I had expected after reading the blurb.

The thing I am sure of is that I enjoyed the sequel slightly more than Carry On. I think that is because of the faster pacing and the more varied scenery of the american desert, lousy motels and sin's city itself.

I found it intrigueing, but I missed more of what was promised in the blurb about Baz and Simon figureing out their relationship and themselves. Other than that, the characters just felt kind of distant from each other and there were scenes wich didn't seem necessary to the plot. I also didn't feel like I got as much out of the ending as I hoped for while reading.

Here The Whole Time was just such a sweet, innocent and heartwarming story wich takes place over the 15 days of winter break. For me it was a little slow, especially in kind of the middle of the book. But it definitely picked up for the ending. I have never read a book like this, with a main character as relatable as Felipe. His character and the romance comforted me in several ways.

Would recommend for anyone in the mood for something cute and relaxing with good representation.

Also, I have never ever read a book with this many movie and book references in my life.
(not a bad thing)

I listened to Boyfriend Material as an audiobook. It had some funny bits and it was sometimes romantic and cute and all that, but I couldn't help but find the whole plot of the romance a bit underwhelming. And some chapters were just straight up boring. The book was not at all bad though. It was just not my type of book.

Would recommend for someone often in the mood for a romcom or for lighthearted, not too dramatic romance stories.
