This is a tough one because I had a huge problem with the narrator. He was boring and didn't bring the book to life as other narrators do.
The story itself was ok. I liked the characters and the concept of a team of investigators debunking ghost stories but also being true believers. The ending was predictable and some of the dialogue was laughable and I found myself rolling my eyes at some scenes. But I will give the next one a chance since I heard the series gets better.

I'm not the biggest fan of romance novels. But I do happen to like Nicholas Sparks. This was OK. Katie and Alex fell in love a little too quickly for my liking, especially with their individual histories. But the rest of the story progressed nicely. I was very happy that this didn't destroy my emotions and had a pretty happy ending for a Nicholas Sparks book.
I had very high expectations based on all the reviews I've read. When I picked it up I thought I would fly through it but after I put it down I had a hard time picking it back up again. Some parts seemed to drag and others went by too quickly. It was good but not what I expected.
I liked all the characters and the story was interesting. It was well-written and fast-paced but at the same time disappointing. I felt the ending was a little rushed and it was missing something. But I will definitely give the next one a shot.
I am a HUGE Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. I was very excited when I found out that Joss Whedon was continuing the story. I'm a little disappointed. I'll try the next volume and try and get over my prejudices.
This is another quick read/listen. But I did have some more issues with it.
1. Everything was resolved a little too quickly/easily.
2. The love triangle is a little ridiculous. One minute, he wants a relationship with Mallory, and then next, he is pining for Felicity. I still see the potential for a love square with Deputy Amy.
3. He tells everyone the truth/everything so quickly. Dude, you just met this guy in a cemetery. You don't have to say to him you have an ancient artifact.
4. Some of the terms are childish. Society of Shadow and the serial killer named Mr. Scary? Come on, be a little bit more creative. Also, the guy's last name is Harbinger. I see a lot of potential for him being a harbinger of death.
That being said, I still liked it.
1. It's quick, fast-paced, and straight to the point. There are no crazy back/side stories or build-ups that sometimes bog down a story.
2. I love a handsome and sarcastic protagonist who wears flannel (umm, Dean Winchester)
3. It sets up a much larger and more exciting storyline
So, I will be continuing with the series for now.
