This was ridiculously predictable and overall very boring. That being said I did enjoy the set-up. The story is told by 4 different characters (the kidnapper, the mother, the detective and eventually the young woman) from before the kidnapping, during and after. I enjoyed hearing each characters distinct voice and how they were dealing with the events. I just wish the story was better.
Quick Synopsis:
All Probationary Constable Peter Grant wants is to be a detective. While at the crime scene of a vicious murder, he has a chance encounter with a ghost that throws him into the world of magic and the supernatural. He then joins the mysterious DCI Nightingale to investigate the murder and crimes of magic.
Thoughts:
This is a decent start to a series. It has all my favorites (mystery, humor, magic, and the supernatural), but I was never fully invested in the story or characters. I will definitely continue with the series, and hopefully, Peter Grant will become a favorite of mine.
