TWOTQ definitely ranks above TCOGB, but is still my third favorite book of the BAA series. If you count ASITE, then this is my fourth favorite. It was a lot of information-dumping and correcting the magic system/world-building confusion from the previous books.

Poppy and Cas are separated for just over half the book,

which was annoying but I appreciated the growing bond between Poppy and Kieran. I definitely think it opens the conversation of different types of love and attraction. The recycled jokes and side comments weren’t as intense in this book as TCOGB, so that’s a relief, and slightly better grammar. It had decent spice, but not as intense as previous books.

I did appreciate the Joining, I think it was meant to be an intimate act of tying their lives together so it didn’t need to be pornographic. But if they have sex again, it better be hot. 
The constant revelations of what Poppy is, is getting tiresome though, so this better be the last of it. I do appreciate a series where there are two villains and I’m very happy Isbitch is dead and Poppy got to kill her. I was a little put off about Millicent being Poppy’s sister and Malik’s heart mate, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how that is developed. I did panic in the end when I saw so many characters died so

it’s obvious I’m invested in the storyline despite its flaws. I anticipate the next book in this series and the FAF series. 

I don’t know how coherent this is going to be because I’m still crying as I’ve literally just finished the book. I had no idea what this book was about prior to reading it. Then as I started, I was immediately turned off by the possibility it was going to be a teen pregnancy story, and then again when I thought it was just going to focus on a typical rebellious teen and her mother’s relationship. But oh boy this book was so much more than that and had so much drama. This book is about trauma, grief, loss, betrayal, second-chances, love, and forgiveness, and it’s what those things look like for an adult and a teenager who appeared to have a comfortable, happy life before tragedy strikes.

As the reader I was angry that neither Jenny nor Chris were alive to answer for what they’d done to their family and to Jonah. I think the response Clara has to her thinking her mom was having an affair with Jonah was realistic and painful.

Hoover does a great job making the reader feel that pain, anger, and regret.

I absolutely loved that Jonah and Morgan got the chance to be together and are taking it slow, but I hate that it took Chris and Jenny dying. And at first it seemed like Hoover was trying to justify their deaths because of their affair, but I now see it more as a clear and easy way for a reader to relate to the emotions Jonah, Morgan, and Clara go through.

As humans, we’ll all experience death of loved ones, it’s part of life, but no one talks about what it’s liked to grieve over someone you loved deeply but were mad at them or hated the person they ended up being. Or coming to terms that they were flawed people after they’ve died and you can no longer confront them.

I felt Morgan’s anger of their betrayal but also being angry they died and she didn’t get to be angry at them. 
I also cried at the end over Miller’s video to Clara (FYI: their project video was super weird), and I realized I’ll never have that kind of love or cheesy love story like that.

But overall, a good book by Colleen Hoover. This is the third book I’ve read by her and I haven’t been disappointed yet! 

I want to say I definitely enjoyed this book way better than the first of the series. KOTW was long winded, which is to be expected when setting the scene to a series, but it was also heavy on unnecessary detail. Plus, it made me hungry. But I definitely liked this book despite it being all over the place.

For one, the author made it sound as if the Sin Corridor would entail more trial and tribulation to get through, but perhaps Wrath taking charge and powering though was a testament to his true feelings for Emilia and her well-being.

It also seemed that Emilia was constantly falling off task as she fought her feelings for Wrath and her desire to avenge her sister. It felt like there were many events,

like Emilia losing her magic,

were unnecessary or cut short, or

like the build up to the Feast,

just for it to not be a big deal. Her tasks/quests and training were also very short and easy, whereas other things drawn out. I hope Emilia because a more well rounded character in the third book, because she seems pretty flat as a character. She’s just a giant rageful ball of lust right now. She is just a chef with only a basic understanding of surface level magic (and even that’s a stretch) and she believes she equipped to handle the Wicked? I applaud her confidence, but am concerned she’s too naive. 

It seemed obvious to me by the middle of the book that Vittoria was still alive (especially with the skulls with her voice appearing) and that Wrath was the true Devil, not Pride. However, this did not stop me from being EXTREMELY excited to have these suspicions confirmed.

I definitely liked the interactions with the Wicked and seeing their differences. I also was very excited by the switch from YA to NA, because if you’re writing about debauchery and lust, you can’t censor or brush over the details that make Hell Hell. It would also be ridiculous to have the Devil not say “Fuck” or the like. He’s the Devil. 
Overall, entertaining story and I’m excited for the third book to come out! 

The Bellinger Sisters duology is top tier spicy rom-com. I definitely related more to Hannah than I did with Piper. I loved the in-depth look into Fox and his emotional trauma, it really shows how harmful any expectations people have of a child can be. I loved their friendship and their budding romantic relationship. I have to say the first book was definitely spicier but this book dove more into the emotions. I didn’t really care for the tiny moment of Fox helping her catch Sergei’s eye because it wasn’t a fully developed “Cyrano”-esque plot point, and I wished Hannah’s newly established emotional connection with Henry was explored just a little more. Overall, the book was entertaining and cute as hell. It was definitely worth the wait. 

I knew this book would have me crying throughout so it took some coaxing for me to start reading it. However, once I started it was difficult to stop. Having worked in CPS, I was genuinely taken aback but the situation with Kenna and her daughter.

It brought me so much pain to witness what Kenna went through with the accident that ended Scotty’s life, her “trial” and sentencing, and then her labor and termination of parental rights. I remained angry with Scotty’s parents and others who hated her, but knew that people are quick to judge those who don’t show remorse in the way the expect. I think many people are incarcerated and sentenced harshly because they don’t emote the way other expect them too so this book definitely feels like it reflects that flaw in the justice system. I could feel Kenna’s heartbreak over losing Scotty and wanted to die with him. I’m glad that Ledger saw Kenna for who she was and not the villain they all developed in their minds. I adore his relationship with Diem.

Despite the tears, I really enjoyed the book and was happy for Kenna and Scotty’s parents in the end. It was a very human story, if that makes sense. 

I love that Skye is this 25-year-old biracial, plus sized woman who doesn’t have life figured out but she’s super body positive. I appreciate that despite her body positivity she still has some insecurities about herself. However, that’s where it stops for me. The book is all over the place with dialogue and pacing. I initially liked the internal monologue of Skye and Forest about their attraction for one another, but the way that the men in the books talk about Skye is disgusting. It’s also gross how Forest and his brother Holden seem to talk about sex with each other and about their sister. Then the way Forest talks to Skye in front of family about sex. It’s just super uncomfortable and awkward. It’s also disturbing that 21 year old Holden is “friends” with 17 year old Daisy. It’s clear considering the second book is about the two of them that he’s pursuing Daisy and waiting for her to become “legal”. It’s just gross and definitely put me off. I hated Mack and her entire character but appreciated Forest FINALLY standing up for Skye though it took him long enough. The spice is fine but again the way it’s written it’s confusing to know what’s going on and how everything is working. The personalities of Skye and Forest are extremely flat; we get it, Skye loves matcha lattes and Forest is obsessed with her breasts. It’s fine for mindless reading but I really had to push through this book and not DNF. It’s so poorly written I honestly thought I was just too stupid to follow, but considering I read books with more substance, I know it’s just bad writing. My rating is literally based on my liking Skye’s surface level representation and Forest finding her sexy without having a fetish for big women. 

On the surface, this is a cute romance about a witch and paranormal investigator falling in love over the course of the Christmas and New Years weeks. However, under the surface, the way the town treats Selene and subsequently Noelle and Bibi, because they’re bad luck, witches, or just plain weird seems akin to the microgressions black and brown individuals experience in reality. Even the love interest, Aiden, needs some time processing the reality of dating a witch and the prejudice Selene faces. A similar process non-POC partners go through in interracial relationships. 

Metaphor aside, the book was cute. The pacing was a bit off and it was more of a romance with some mystery in the background. It seemed a bit out of place because it was just random things happening instead of some mystery/suspense being sprinkled through out, it was jarring events happening randomly. It took a while for the book to really capture my attention, but once I got to know The characters, I was interested to see where the story would take me. I loved Noelle. She’s the best friend we all need. 

Overall, I think Nicks wrote a cute book and I may read the next in the series in the future. 

I think this book is way better than the first of the series! I enjoyed Declan and Iris’ relationship a lot more though I think Declan did go too far when he lashed out at Iris. This book had a decent amount of sexual tension and spice. I love a fake marriage/dating trope and this one was beautifully executed. I will definitely be reading book three when it’s released! I’m excited to see Cal’s romance. 

This was an absolutely cute contemporary YA romance and I loved EVERY minute of it! It is clearly a well-written Wattpad-esque fluff piece that had me swooning. Hate the names of the characters and there wasn’t a lot of substance, but it was a fun romance that handled some serious undertones. However, I would’ve preferred their relationship progress over a few months, not a couple of weeks. The situation with Becca and her dad made me cry as it’s similar to my situation with my own dad. And it was heartbreaking to see Brett handle the situation between his parents. Overall this is a cute fake dating to real dating story with enough drama in between. 
I was kind of hoping there was another book by Alex Light in this universe that centered around Jenny or Parker or Cassie. I’d like to see more diversity in Light’s future books, but am excited to see more work from them. 

I want to start by saying I enjoyed the book. It was hard to like Alessandra or Kallias as there are both selfish, power hungry, privileged individuals. I thought I could get over their flaws as I did with Jude and Carden in The Cruel Prince, but Alessandra’s and Kallias’ flaws and growth (if you can call it that) are superficial at best. Alessandra driven to gain power because the first man she loved groomed her then abandoned her and he father treats her as nothing more than a meal ticket. She lacks empathy for others and does whatever she can to elevate her station. Her reasons for planning to kill the king are even weak as it doesn’t appear to be a pattern of queens being docile and removed from ruling. 
The world-building is lacking and the magic system isn’t really a system. If you want a quick and easy read with a decent amount of tension with just enough detail to make it a historical fantasy, then this is the book for you.
