I absolutely loved this volume! I love that it’s not some happily ever after between Nick and Charlie. I love that it’s an honest to God genuine, non-toxic, same-sex relationship that addresses real issues that teens and young adults face. I think it’s incredibly important that Oseman has highlighted mental illness, self-harm, and eating disorders as well as a healthy way to go about helping a loved one that struggles with these issues. I appreciate that Oseman depicts someone with a mental illness also being happy at times and the slow progress to them managing better. That even when you are getting better, you have bad days and can relapse. Charlie and Nick are absolutely adorable and I love them so much. They may be dealing with some mature issues but they also remember to have fun and be teenagers and BEING IN LOVE! 

I have to say, I really loved this book. It felt pretentious and like you needed a Ivy League degree to understand the first third of the book, but it really is so much more. The story follows Galaxy “Alex” Stern, a survivor who spent most of her life self-medicating after years literally being haunted then assaulted. Then she survives a mass homicide in which her best friend dies. She’s then offered this second chance and she takes it. However, she enters a world vastly different from her own and she tries hard to navigate through it and survive. That’s what Alex does, she survives. And the book is a journey I think survivors go through when they’re trying to get back to themselves and out of survival mode and actually start living. 
I love Alex, I think she is funny, snarky, and witty. Though she’s a high school dropout, I resonate with her struggle from being a good student in high school and feel like you’re barely scraping by in college. I also came to like Darlington, though he comes off like a some elitist, privileged white boy who would look down at Alex for where she comes from, but he really respects her and they’re very similar. 
I respect Bardugo’s attempt to bring race, gender, and class into the conversation, but it fell a little flat and was superficial at best. I hope she actually build upon what I feel is a core theme and that is Ivy League elitism, privilege,  power dynamics, and the components that make that up. 
This book heavily addressed the abuse women experience and their healing journey, and I think that’s powerful in and of itself. 
The magical system in this book is pretty incredible. After struggling through the first part of the book, I can appreciate being thrust into the thick of it and having to work it out like a mystery on top of trying to figure out the mystery occurring in the book. 
I hope we learn more about what Alex is, where Darlington is, and who Alex’s dad is. Lots of other unanswered questions, and I’m excited for the next installment. 

I love this introduction to Riri Williams and her story! I think she’s funny and obviously really smart, but clearly still a young teenage girl trying to find her place in the world. I love the representation and brightness Riri exudes despite losing so many loved ones. I can’t wait to see Riri grow as a superhero, as a woman, and as just a kid in need of fun and happiness. 

I think it was a fun start but really short for a beginning. I love the character dynamics and I thought it was a lot of fun. The Young Avengers issue was also fun and Gwenpool’s issue was funny and dark. 

This storyline is kind of all over the place. I am looking forward to the next volume and reading Vol. 0! I wish this was longer though! It just seems the storyline will end pretty quickly. I enjoyed the characters and the current storyline though! I love the effortless female power group! It’s not cringey like some of the Marvel movies have become with their one shot “girl-boss” scenes. 

I think this an excellent conclusion to America’s first solo series! I loved the exploration of America’s identity and her found family as well as her biological family and origins! I think the representation of a brown, queer Spanglish speaking woman who’s independent and strong as hell is amazing. I love her emotional growth as well! That even strong and powerful women are allowed to emote! I think the messages and conflicts in this series is very relevant to our lives today. I appreciate the highlight on racism, capitalism, and fascism. Can’t wait to see America in other series! 

I really like this version of America. I think she’s fun and flawed in the ways many young people destined for great things are. I appreciate her back story of her moms, her choosing to leave the parallel, and finding her people amongst the Latin community. I also very much love the LGBTQ+ representation! And just the brown girl love! 

An absolutely incredible and fun series! I loved every issue and wished there was more of this storyline! It was honestly my favorite Marvel comic collection to date! 

I love the realness of being a hero. And the life lessons that Kamala learns and the very real world issues for the audience. I really how there’s more after that ending! 

This was a super fun story! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Kamala as she continues to grow into her powers and her identity. I very much enjoy the cultural references and that there’s a hero not defending just New York City.
