a very fun concept- fantasy western with magic and crystal creatures! the prose wasn't to my personal taste and i felt it could have been tightened up alot more. for this reason i ended up skimming over alot and couldn't relate super well to the characters and wasnt very invested as i wanted to be :0
this was so sweet and heart breaking and well crafted and oh my everything developed exactly as i wanted it to and the twist resolving everything at the end eughhhhhdhhejehehebejw at first i was like damn kit you autistic af for talking like that and then OH!!! OH!!!!!!!! its so beautiful
horror fantasy with aro rep, amazing ( queer normative ) worldbuilding. i love the concept of "death" and rot and i really enjoyed how the plot evolved and the twist taken. also monsters lol
i loved the premise and the world building potential that was set up but it felt lacking in lots of areas unfortunately- i wasn't able to invest in the characters or the romance because alot of the stakes didn't stick and jokes didn't land. it did feel instalove with unbalanced dialogue and slow pacing where certain plot points felt unreasonable. i also wanted a deeper exploration of the corruption and systemic issues but it just didn't sink in for me. i had to force myself to get through it and even then i could only skim. this does have spice but the plot didn't do enough to support it
feuding vampire families, magic, enemies to lovers, also freaky- excellent writing as usual!
queer possession horror with a priest who is an empath- the romance and love was stronger than the horror in my opinion! the possession was straightforward and the horror development was slow, but the characters are so whole and full of love- this may be one of my favorite depictions of devotion, faith, family
dark
mysterious
medium-paced
this was so good. THIS WAS SO GOOD????? the writing, the atmosphere, the characters. profound and haunting. folk horror, cults, religious guilt, moral panic- with a dash of ancient spirits and queerness. it does not pull its punches and it took leaps exactly where i craved it to, all whilst being subtle and craftful. and the illustrations are gorgeous. loved watching shelby's fall and this will definitely be sticking with me
mm horrormance, priest x shepherd, the demon of guilt, both terrifying and sweet
