The epilogue is great. I love this illustrators panels. I feel seen when reading her work.

I’ve loved all of Sarah’s books. Her characters are quite relatable and honest.

I read this a number of years ago but decided to read it again. I really wanted to love this but I just didn’t get there. I did enjoy the notion of these real artists and having a glimpse into their lives even if fictional. The story only truly got great in the last four chapters. Great character development though.

Nothing profound but still enjoyable. Cried when Esther was in her dad’s bedroom and put on her father’s glasses. Reminded me of my dad and his belongings I have. Had a lovely pleasant ending!

As expected with every fiction I read that’s based on war time I balled my eyes out. This was a book for a historical military book club I’m apart of and it was thoroughly enjoyable since the part set in Ontario is where I live and frequent. Hearing about the landscape of this part of southwestern Ontario during that era was really neat. It made the story that much more realistic and brought me easily into the characters lives.

Thanks to Ty for recommending I read this. I've had to read ita couple of times though, as for some reason, I was having trouble relating/understanding the tale. But, sometimes stories are like that right? Ty, good choice of the tattoo. It's slick!

I was not expecting to have such a strong emotional response to this story. Two sections brought me to tears. The conversation Eloise had with her dad about the 53 men and the ending with the boat. Wow!! Balling my eyes out. Would definitely read again.
