Every time I read a book by Holly Black I think, ah good brain food lol. Seriously one of the best types of writing to read it’s so easy and fun and makes you want more. I loved this book and based on the Q&A at the end, we are getting more in this world!! I am so excited I love Oak and Wren and I think the next book will be back on Cardan and Jude but I hope to see more of all. Ready for more characters too! Really good read and ending to this duology.

I listened to this book as an audiobook and really enjoyed it; I especially liked the voices used by the narrator, that really added to the story. I feel like this book is hard to describe without spoiling it but it felt kind of boring or more so calm? I am not sure what word to use but, despite the slow boring plot, there was always something that was odd and unsettling. Some good examples are the way Jake doesn't answer some of his girlfriends questions about weird things going on, the tour of the farm and the dead sheep, the chickens/ hens and the one that was eating an egg, or when the girlfriend went to the bathroom and the slippers switched positions. Also the basement portion??? like what were those freaky drawings about, is the figure Jake and the child Jake like WHAT. Just some really odd shit going on. The twist at the end was kinda wacky, idk what I was expecting but it wasn't that. I think my favorite part of listening to the audio book was the part where "the girlfriend's" voice blends into Jakes and the repetitive "what are you waiting for?" omg it gave me chills, worth the listen if you just read the book for real. . Anyway fun listen/read! Gonna watch the movie now.

Wow!! So good to get to read about Snow’s history and learn more about the war and earlier hunger games. This book was good but it definitely took me awhile to finish even though the language and writing was easy to understand. I think I enjoyed the hunger games portion the most before Snow got REALLY messed up, I mean we of course know he’s bad now but it was nice to see the before. I think that Snow is such a complex and confused character; I really enjoyed how he was written and I enjoyed his inner thoughts even if sometimes he gave me the ick lol. He is written well in that his actions and thoughts contradict each other (especially his relationship with Sejanus) Sometimes he hates him then he’s glad to see him then ultimately he betrays him but feels guilty for that, he really is crazy! I wish the ending was a bit better but I guess it’s fitting given that we know how Snow turns out. Overall, super happy to be getting more in the hunger games universe.

ahhh I feel like I am reliving my childhood re-reading this book. It's so fun comparing my reading experience now to when I read this at 11 years old. I enjoyed this book a little more than the first because of the action, developments between Katniss and Peeta, the rebellions, and of course FINNICK. I can't wait to go on to the next one.

I read this book over 10 years ago when I was really young and decided to reread since TBOSAS just came out. It was just as good as I remember and I love the simple writing style and Katniss as a narrator. Honestly I just love this book for nostalgic reasons and will always rate it well based on enjoyment even if I am reading more complex books now.

I don’t know why but this book didn’t connect with me as much as the others in the series did. It felt really repetitive again and I feel like the series would’ve been better just the three; it felt unnecessary to have another book in my opinion. Other than that I liked the writing and the concept just as I did the other books.

This is certainly an interesting read! I think the start of this book is pretty slow and confusing at times, I found myself thinking "what is happening" often. Regardless, I really loved the twist this book took! I think the author did a really good job of writing a story that keeps you on your toes. Also make sure to read the authors note at the end :) When it was first revealed that Olivia and Lauren were the same person I was shocked and then I felt mad at Ted for what he did to Lauren. Then, when it was revealed that Ted was also Lauren and Olivia OMG. I think this book does a good job of keeping you on your toes and even if you predict the twist, the ending is satisfying enough. I also feel so bad for Ted and all the horrible things his mom did to him. The author did a really good job portraying the complexity of DID and also including aspects that may be hard to catch without knowing what is going on (hence the confusion in the beginning of the book). For example, when Olivia broke the Russian nesting dolls or when the framed picture of Teds parents was taken down... but then in the next chapters they are there again; or the blue/orange rug. These details are what kept me thinking and trying to figure out what was going on. Only thing I didn't like was how Ted was portrayed for most of the book as a bad guy. I understand this is intentional and that we as readers are supposed to think he took Lulu/ or that Lulu is Lauren, but I think this is too common in media portrayals of people with DID. I also didn't love the ending for Dee, that felt kinda thrown in there and I would've been happier if she had the closure of knowing her sister had died all those years ago and that Ted was not responsible. Most of my review is a spoiler and more of a rant but oh well lol.

I have enjoyed each book in this series about the same. Each story is very well done and most are tear jerkers but I also feel like it’s weird how many of the stories have to do with someone getting sick and dying. I was hoping for some more variation and more reasons why people would want to go to the past or future. I was hoping for something different but still it was nice to read/ listen to.

This book was just as good as the last one but I liked learning more about the characters so I gave it a slightly higher rating. I enjoyed each story of the characters who visited the cafe but I think my favorite part was learning more about kazu and her story. I am excited to read more about her. One thing I didn’t like was that some aspects were very repetitive and information that was already known was repeated 2-3 times.
