Evocative and funny, Beach Read is the story I didn’t know I needed!

Emily Henry is well-known for her Young Adult Fiction, but this Adult Contemporary Romance/Women’s Fiction proves she can captivate an audience regardless of age!

Full of quirky personalities, awkward encounters, and witty dialogue, I felt totally invested in the cast of characters and immersed in the small, Michigan town where the story takes place. There is a lot of depth and emotion that I didn’t entirely expect but connected me even further to the story.

I absolutely loved the dynamic between Gus and January. They have history and a rivalry which makes for a lot of great banter. They are both a little broken with pasts and family drama that haunt them, but they begin to piece themselves (and each other) back together as their relationship progresses, and I couldn’t get enough of them.

Overall, I absolutely recommend Beach Read! Just be warned that it’s not all sunshine and rainbows like the cover and title might lead you to assume. Regardless, this is a beautifully written story that I don’t plan to stop shouting about anytime soon.

The Switch is a complete joy; charming and heartwarming!

Beth O’Leary has solidified herself as an auto-buy author for me with her beautiful stories full of wit and whimsy and eliciting so much emotion. I went into this book hoping that I’d enjoy it as much as her previous one, The Flatshare, and it hit the mark!

The premise of The Switch is a lot of fun and really refreshing. The story is told in the dual POVs of Leena and Eileen; a hard working, career driven Londoner and her spunky, single, small town grandmother. I absolutely loved both points of view and seeing how each character found more of themselves through their swap.

One of the things I appreciated most were the connections each character made with each others’ friends. Watching those friendships grow completely warmed my heart!

The narration for this audiobook is perfection! I felt like the voices of Alison Steadman and Daisy Edgar-Jones were really well-suited for their characters, helping to evoke more emotion as I listened.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed The Switch and highly recommend the audiobook, as well. Beth O’Leary has a gift, and I cannot wait for her next release.

Fable is a beautiful piece of writing combined with a fun adventure story for an epic read!

This is my first experience with Adrienne Young’s writing, but I feel immediately compelled to read her backlist after finishing this one. Her writing has an easy flow and lyrical quality; it’s captivating in and of itself. With shorter chapters, it wasn’t hard to get lost in this book.

Fable sets up the second book in the duology nicely, with a lot of great world-building, the introduction of characters, an arc towards a conflict, and, of course, a big ole cliffhanger! At times, though, the pacing was quite slow which makes me wish that the overall story was a standalone, rather than a duology.

I absolutely adore the cast of characters! Fable is a strong, determined lead with a family history that adds a lot of intrigue. She finds herself in the company of the crew of the Marigold, including my two favorite characters, Willa and West. Willa is a firecracker, and I love her interactions with Fable. West is phenomenal in all his broodiness! There’s a lot of angst between he and Fable, and I couldn’t get enough of them.

Overall, I would recommend Fable! It was just chosen as a Reese’s Book Club pick, so now is the perfect time to grab this one. Book 2 is slated to release in March 2021!

Not Like the Movies is just as adorable as I had hoped!

This romantic comedy is a great follow-up to Kerry’s Waiting for Tom Hanks. I really enjoyed being back in Columbus with some of my favorites from book one. This series is definitely interconnected, so I’ll caution that if you don’t read the first book, reading this one will be spoilery and you’d miss out on some character development.

The premise is so fun with the main characters’ lives being the rough basis for a rom com flick despite them not actually having a real life HEA…yet!

Not Like the Movies is cute, quirky, and full of good humor, though it also casts light on some less carefree topics. One element that I appreciated was the representation of Alzheimer’s/caring for someone with a progressive disease.

The dynamic between Chloe and Nick gives me a lot of Lorelai and Luke (Gilmore Girls) vibes. Chloe has a sunshine personality while Nick is a classic grump with a heart of gold. The romance is slow to burn with a lot of angsty push and pull.

Overall, I really enjoyed Not Like the Movies and recommend it to fans of romantic comedies!

So, I'd rate this book more like a 4.5! I LOVED it, especially Elias. The young female characters are probably the reason I didn't go 5-stars on my rating. I liked them and thought they were developed well enough, but I still couldn't connect with them entirely. I can't wait to read the sequel, though!

Just like the first book in the series, I think I'd lean closer to rating this 5 stars if I liked the female leads more. I did LOVE this book, and I still ADORE Elias! I liked Helene less and Laia more than in AEITA, though. I am super pleased with this series, so far, and I can't wait for the next book. Elias has been one of my favorite YA guys <3
