I’m fascinated by this book, which I think must have been quite progressive for it’s time in regards to LGBTQIA+ issues. I wonder what readers thought about it back then. It had a dreamy, atmospheric quality to me, characters with unclear or unrealized motives, with one event tying everything together. It’s perhaps similar to Emily St. John Mandel’s books, which I very much enjoy. I think this is a book that would generate a lot of discussion, and one that will stick with me.

I read this book because it was recommended by the Strong Sense of Place podcast, and it’s about a topic that I care very much about. It was a fun adventure, and I binged it in one day. The writing is simple, concise, and plot-driven. I’d say teens can read it as well (there’s a little sexual content, but nothing major).
