Interesting subject matter, but not my style. I didn't find the protagonist particularly likeable, and the whole thing felt like a hostory book turned into a novel by putting it into first person.

The story of how the authorities knew the damage being done to the workers by the radium paint they used and how they covered it up is both fascinating and infuriating. The women's struggle for justice is inspiring. Unputdownable.

Very 1990s, and you can see how the author's writing has improved and developed since then.Still a fun read, though a bit slow and frustrating in parts.

Enjoyable and informative with an odd sort of nostalgia for lockdown. Made me wish I knew more about nature, especially birds.

Harmless and fairly predictable romance with dome quirky characters. The main character was likeable, other characters less so. not riveting, but okay.

I found this more enjoyable than I expected, as I knew practically nothing about James Stewart prior to reading this. He comes over as a generally likeable man, although his politics are very different from mine, and he was definitely a racist, no matter how much the author tries to soften that and to justify it by saying that he was "of his time". The summaries of film plots were a little wearing at times, although probably made necessary by the author's decision to list every film Stewart ever made. As far as I know, I've only seen one ("It's a Wonderfu; Life"), but this book was interesting enough to make me want to watch at least a couple more. I enjoyed the fascinating insight into the studio system in Hollywood before and immediately after the War and into the Mafia involvement in Hollywood. It was interesting too to read about J. Edgar Hoover's obsessive investigation of anyone suspected of communism, "Immorality" or homosexuality, and about Stewart's involvement in that.

A funny and irreverent look at what might have happened if the Queen - at the age of eighty or so - had become a prolific reader. I particularly enjoyed the glimpses of Prince Philip.

This is both fun and touching. Lovable characters, all very different, who manage to work together and reach some level of understanding despite their differences. You have to suspend disbelief a little about the basic premise of an 86-year-old being allowed to visit an Antarctic research station but if you do that, it's fine. Veronica's backstory is sad and touching, and very well handled. The epilogue rounds it off nicely. The narrators are just perfect for their different roles.
