I hate read this, and would have DNF'd if I hadn't been reading it for a challenge.
it did a good job of expressing the waste and futility of war. The characters were mostly unlikeable, although I think that was deliberate as it showed how their experiences had hardened them and made them cynical. I didn't find it funny at all: some of what was meant to be humour was just silly, some just sad.

Very honest and emotional. The timeline was (deliberately) jumbled, which made it hard to follow at times.

This is a lovely sweet (in more ways than one) book with loveable characters and a happy ending. Nothing deep of complicated, even the conflicts and wrong choices are sorted out easily enough. And there are recipes!

I like this more every time I read it. Mrs Norris is such a lovely love-to-hate villain. Fanny is a bit of a drip at times and Edmund is rather too good to be true, but on the whole this is an enjoyable story, though not my favourite Austen by a long way.

Interesting and very nerdy. I felt I didn't know the Beatles' music (or other music mentioned) well enough to fully appreciate it.

A family saga centred on what it means to grow up with money, and what it means to be an outsider marrying into money. Likeable. fallible characters,  who were easy to sympathise with even when they did stupid or unkind things.

I didn't care for the main character, and although the premise was interesting, I found it slow and repetitive.

I liked the premise of this more than the book itself. The main character was likeable, and I felt a lot of sympathy for her, but there was something lacking in the storytelling that made this slow going for me. I think I would have valued a bit more conflict as well as the basic central tragedy of the plotline.

A novella about expectations and trying to be what you're not and trying to live up to ideals, whether your own or other people's. Quite sad in places. Very much of its time.

Meh. It was okay, and I liked the insight into the contained world of the stables, but none of the characters were very likeable, and I found it hard to care what happened to them.
