I know that there are some complaints that it starts becoming a little preachy, but honestly if you are going through a turning point in your life at the moment, it might relieve some of that anxiety.

I want to give Bussi the benefit of doubt that the translations make less sense in English, but this is one of those books where it is so obvious that the female characters were written by a man. A man who is incapable of understanding that women are people too, that we think outside of our reproduction organs. Yes it is a book that focuses a lot on maternal instincts. But there are some really cringe moments. The only reasons I didn’t abandon the books are because I try not to abandon a book but also that I was interested to see how all the little pieces fit in. Speaking off, I think the author got sidetracked and added too many unnecessary details. I found myself skimming over paragraphs of conversation. Which is funny in hindsight because the police captain complains about people taking forever to get to the point. Perhaps a Freudian slip? Also, I found his use of ending the chapters on a cliff hanger to be annoying after the umpteenth time. Especially when it wasn’t answered for several more chapters. To summarize, I don’t regret reading it but I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend it to anyone.

If you liked the Midnight Library but also like books that focus more on relationships this is the book for you. I thought the author’s writing was great, but the ending felt almost comically out of sync with the book. It didn’t ruin the book but just took the air out.
