I borrowed this book from a coworker after I saw the movie (I know, I know...) and I still loved it. If you've seen the movie then there are no surprises - they did a great job of telling McEwan's story. Loved the book and would recommend even if one has already seen the movie.
This book had a Kate Morton feel to it given its lush, atmospheric setting. But here is what was most compelling to me: how people can go to the grave with HUGE secrets that are lost to subsequent generations. We live our lives with devastating secrets - experiences that we think about every single day that we never share with those around us, yet affect every aspect of our relationships. And those secrets die with us.
This book was ambitious - it stares down white privilege and explores racism during some pivotal times in US history. Yes, it falls short in many ways but I believe it was a brave effort. This was beautifully written, wonderfully atmospheric, and kept the family's secrets right up until the end. I couldn't put this book down!

This book was full of practical advice on decluttering and is one of the best that I've read in a while. I've been slowly decluttering for years and still found some inspiration and good ideas. Rubin does a great job of reminding us WHY decluttering helps and that it's going to look different for everyone.
This book was a lot of fun and I just couldn't stop reading. I think anyone with a sibling could relate to the relationship between the two sisters - one who feels as though she's responsible for everything and the other who seems to believe that she has no responsibilities. Except, hopefully not everyone has a sibling who is a serial killer.
