I acknowledge that this book is definitely a step down from the first two in the series but just my love for this series let me give it five stars. There are a lot of instances where you have to look over certain things that do not really seem possible.

I really liked this historical-fiction novel and the setting in London and New York at the end of the eighteen hundreds. It tells the story of Fiona, who rises from poverty in the East End of London to become a rich woman in New York all on her own. I liked how it had romance elements and the story between Joe and Fiona is always there in the background but puts Fiona's struggle and rise in society. I loved all the side characters that are present in the story because they all had such a well-rounded background.

This is one of my absolute favorite books in the entire world. I loved the setting at the turn of the century in London. The chemistry between India and Sid was coming through in the story and I loved to see how they fought for their love. Sid is the classic tortured hero, even though the torture here is literal and I loved how India was the light he needed to fight for a different life. India on the other hand did not rest on her privilege but rather found a way for herself in the world and I was a huge fan of this. It was nice to see the Finnegan family again and where they are now in their life.

This was a very interesting play about immigration and one of the few school books I actually liked.

I had to read this book for school and I absolutely hated it. There is nothing happening at all in the story and if a turn is coming, it is handled in two sentences and we go back to boring descriptions.

This book documents life on the coast of the North Sea but I was not a huge fan of it.

This is definitely one of the German classics that I like because it has such an important concept in it. It definitely chronicles the start of mental illness, in a time where such things were not really a "thing" yet.

I can objectively say that this is definitely not the conclusion that I would have wanted but I understood what the author wanted to do. I knocked one star down for the ending and that the book goes on for basically three hundred pages after the main conflict is resolved but I still liked it very much.

I enjoyed this book and the message behind it. For being such a short read it packs a real punch and manages to address important topics in such a short time.

This is probably the German classic. I actually quite enjoyed my time reading it because it focuses on some important topics and a story that features the devil always sounds fun to me.
