I was sold the second Sloane started talking about this book on IG!!! Ive only read 1 firefighter story prior to this, and it was a holiday novella so it hardly counts. This was pretty cool! Also the cover art?????????? girl. Im not sure who the visual inspo was for Callahan, but he reminds me of this one guy on instagram i always see chopping wood shirtless in the wilderness....dont judge me 😘.
I will say for my own thoughts however, it almost went a little too deep into hotshot lore for how short the book was. The book wasn't short, but what i mean is maybe the % of lore we got was a bit high for the length? I also felt a bit out of touch with the topic of conversion therapy and cults thrown in, but i think maybe just because i wasn't expecting it and didn't know how to feel. I can tell research was done, and there seems to be a lot of care put into the book which is always super important when touching on topics like this. I think maybe if the book was a few chapters longer it would have made a little more sense to me, or maybe those topics would have meshed better? I'm not entirely sure, and am still just processing the book :")
The romance plot was adorable, and i really enjoyed watching Scottie grow as an individual. BOY, can St. James write a dirty talking man. She might be the queen of pillow talk i swear 😳🔥 talk about hot.
I think some additional chapters on her therapy progress along with cal battling his ptsd would have also added to the story. Their love felt so fun in the first half of the book. And for the second, the trials were really cool to read through. The way the author described the wilderness made me feel like i was actually there, and its really inspiring me to want to visit the PNW. Washington was already on my bucket list and I'm sure this series will heavily impact my drive to go!
Sloane is still an autobuy author for me, and i was so happy to see this baby dropped into my kindle with 1 hour left until its technical release date lmao. Now that we've met all the men, im excited to see how these other books go. I've preordered them already so now we just wait for their days to come hehe 🤗
