For the first 40% of the book, I felt annoyed by the main character because she just seemed so immature and indifferent to the feelings of others. Also, I just kept being annoyed at the fact that the author chose to make the character 16 years old but also set the story on a university campus.

The world-building was truly awful with many pages in a row of just straight exposition. It's really difficult to feel like this is a real-world and magic system when the information is presented so flatly.

However, the last 30-40% of the book really starts to get good and by the end, I actually liked the main character and felt like there was meaningful character development.

Much better than the first book in the trilogy since much of the world has already been developed.
