Chester the Cricket gets lost in New York City and is adopted by a little boy named Mario who works at his father's newspaper stand in the subway. Chester befriends a mouse and a peaceful cat, who enjoy listening to his beautiful cricket music. The animals are not the only ones who notice Chester's talent for music. Soon the humans are also enchanted with Chester's cheerful chirps.

This is such a beautiful classic children's story. It has a soft charm. I love the old-fashioned style of the writing and the delightful illustrations by Garth Williams.

Chester is adorable! I love stories about little tiny creatures who have to rely on their quick wits to win the day. There is something so innocent about Chester; he charms his way into the hearts of every other character and puts a smile on their face. He makes the reader smile too!

The writing itself is not particularly good, but the story is excellent, and I love the characters! The habits of owls are terribly interesting. I'm going to read the whole series!

I did not like the writing style being in present tense. It just sounds strange. The story is adorable, and the writing is funny! Great book to read aloud to children.

Delightful and hilarious! One of the best Wodehouse books I've ever read. The witty dialogue and the funny situations just kept me chuckling all the time. It amazes me how brilliantly the author takes a cast of characters, all with their own agenda and wants, and weaves a plot of silly mistakes and coincidences, so that each character interacting with the others on different levels finally arrives at the desired destination, whether good or bad for heroes or villains. Just wonderful!
