Haunted houses, small town, coffee shops - what's not to love? As a lover of this author's previous Ren faire romance novels, I was super stoked for this one, and it did not disappoint. 

Boneyard Key, Florida - the most haunted city in Florida! - is a small town a few hours from Orlando. A bit of a tourist trap, known to lean into it's ghostly reputation. Enter Cassie, a copywriter from Orlando who just bought a newly flipped house in Boneyard Key. No way it's actually haunted though right?! The fact that her lap top won't keep a charge is easily explained by an old house and fault electrical, right? In search of an outlet and some coffee, Cassie walks down the street to Hallowed Grounds coffee shop where she meets the grumpy (but hot) cafe owner, Nick. 

A little slow burn, a little grumpy sunshine, a whole host of likeable well developed characters - including the ghosts! - some truly great punny names for all the shops, and the best description of the best Publix Sub! 

Definitely check this out if you're looking for a sweet and steamy summer romance that will make you laugh out loud and maybe shed a little tear too!

This gentle romance is fun and sweet, with just the right amount of spice.

Willa is a widowed 46 year old former cookbook writer trying to find herself.
Hudson is a divorced 41 year old father of two, and a handyman with big dreams of being a Restoration expert.
They meet when Willa finds Hudson's dog Noodle in her garage during a particularly bad rainstorm on an otherwise idyllic Island in the PNW. It turns out they're neighbors! Willa inquired her great aunt's house on the island, and it needs a little fixing up. Enter Hudson the handy man. Turns out having him around also helps Willa get into the mood with her latest cookbook assignment for a cooking influencer known for his sexy recipes.

Tropes: Slow burn, found family, small town, dual POV, later-in-life romance, single dad, forced proximity 

While nothing tops Role Playing for me, Do Me a Favor did not disappoint! Willa and Hudson find each other while finding themselves, and it's adorable. They each completely nerd out about their own obsessions, which is utterly relatable. (For Willa, it's food. For Hudson, it's clocks) I loved all the side characters as well, and would definitely read another novel set in this community! 
 The only thing that kinda fell flat for me was Willa's husband's death, which happens off page but is referenced quite a lot. Oh, and sometimes Hudson says something that seems completely out of the blue since the reader knows but it wasn't apparent that he did yet, but fairly minor quibbles. All in all, a fun light-hearted read!

The hook: "A newly single queer woman moves to New Orleans and sets off on a mission to find her most compatible match by going on a date with someone of each astrological sign in this rom-com from the Lambda Literary Award–nominated author of Queerly Beloved."

My thoughts: fun and light-hearted, full of astrology tidbits, which I enjoyed, a nod to #DisneyBounding - even if it actually makes it seem negative... All in all, a fun fluffy summer read. As an Aries sun, like our main character Grey, I felt I easily connected to her. I loved her best friend Cherry, and their story. 

Fresh out of her first real relationship, after ten years together, Grey is only 6 weeks from turning 29, when Saturn's Return occurs. Hoping to capitalize on that event, Grey and Cherry come up with a plan for Grey to go on 12 dates in 6 weeks, one date each each astrological sign, in order! Seems ridiculous and stressful honestly, but hilarity and self discovery ensure. A bit of open and closed door romance, and a HEA with an unlikely character. Don't take this one too seriously, just enjoy the ride!

TW: the MC describes herself as a lesbian, but then states she is interested in dating anyone other than cis men. I do wish the author had addressed this differently, as I agree with those who have stated that this others trans men and is harmful. I feel there could have been discussion on the labels we each choose to identify with, and how those may change over time with new experiences. 

Character driven, coming of age story, wonderfully narrated by the amazing Nicola Coughlin!

This is a quick, witty, sometimes self-deprecating, book of quick responses to men who perhaps are not very self-aware. Love the authors wit and descriptions. Definitely worth the read!

Super quick and cute!

Beautifully written, combination of historical romance, friend to lover, second change, and horror, but I wanted more of the horror. I loved the vampires, but we just didn't get enough of them. Love the question of who is the true monster. Just needed more vampires haha
