I really can't decide between 3 and 4 stars. I really wanted to keep reading and see what was next, it was an amazing sweep across America and an impressive and original take on religion and gods. There was some serious dry humor that I enjoyed and also quite a bit that I am sure went over my head. But there were times when I kept thinking, even though I like this book, I wouldn't really want to read another one what this genre (whatever that may be...). Perhaps a bit esoteric for me. I would recommend it, but only to certain people I think.
This book. O man was it poorly written. Very little character development and mostly only surface descriptions of motivations, etc. Everything was spelled out (had to be...because nothing was developed enough for the reader to be able to infer anything). And it's too bad because really, the story is great! I wanted to keep reading, skimming through the bad writing ad dialogue, because I wanted to know what was going to happen. The plot is great and the ideas are so wonderfully interconnected and there is so much potential to be great with so much going on. I get very frsutrated with books like this.
