This was a pretty epic novel, spanning countries, generations and multitudes of family-breaking secrets. So so good. And with such a seemingly "beach read" title, it took me way too long to pick it up and read it. Goes to show me not to judge a book by the title. Nice recommendation Z, thanks.

It dragged. A lot. Not bad as far as story line or cultural insights, but really nothing pulled me to want to keep going, ever.

This book was too much for me. I usually love magic realism and this book seemed promising. But it got too bogged down for me to even enjoy. I got lost and totally had no idea where I was or really where the characters were.
