The real monsters, they’re all human.
Destroy All Monsters by Sam J. Miller
Narrated by Brittany Pressley and Zachary Webber
QUICK SUMMARY 🖊️
Solomon and Ash both experienced a traumatic event when they were twelve. Ash suffers from loss of memory of the event and Solomon slips further away into a place he calls Darkside.
FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
I’m going to be totally honest, this book had me confused. But I feel like that was also the point. This book was genre bending bring real world and fantasy, trauma and strength. It’s defiantly a YA book, but I was able to enjoy it as an adult as well.

“If you're not fighting for something, you're going to get used as a stepping-stone for the people who are.”
Wicked Beauty by Katee Robert
Book 3 in Dark Olympus Series
Narrated by Alex Moorcock & Zara Hampton-Brown
QUICK SUMMARY 🖊️
A modern retelling in a competition where we find Helen of Troy, Achilles, and Patroclus.
FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
So far my least favourite in the series but still enjoyable. Loved the competition idea, but the characters were annoying to me.

“Her tactics don't work as well as they used to. Not since I grew up enough to realize she uses her love and her attention as both lure and punishment.”
Electric Idol by Katee Robert
Book 2 in Dark Olympus Series
Narrated by Alex Moorcock, Zara Hampton-Brown
QUICK SUMMARY 🖊️
The second book in the Dark Olympus series, gives us a spicy retelling of Psyche and Eros.
FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
I was lost in these two as soon as the book began. The simple way that body positivity was thrown into this book …. Yes please! We have Beauty & The Beast modern day. If this is the route we’re taking with this series they’ll be quickly devoured.

“They seem to think it’s easier to persecute others than to lend a helping hand.”
The Dalwick Demon by @ashleybennettauthor
QUICK SUMMARY 🖊️
Iris is being persecuted for her “crimes” and her punishment? Being thrown to her death to face the Demon of Dalwick Cave.
FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
If you’ve been here for awhile you know I love Ashley, I love the stories she tells of monsters and the coziness that comes along with it. This quick novella was no different, even had me raising my eye brows a couple times, in the best way possible of course.

“As long as men exist in this world, they’ll do what they can to consolidate their power. We’ll spend one more year here and then return to the same shit world we left behind.”
Camp Zero by Michelle Min Sterling
QUICK SUMMARY 🖊️
In the not so distant future the best place to live will be the North, because of the rising temperatures. In the northern reaches of Canada sits an American base who will do anything to keep their family safe.
FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
First I want to thank @NetGalley & Atria Books for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book jumped out at me when I found out it was based in Canada, being Canadian I always love seeing this. Knowing the author was born in western Canada I had high hopes. Which came crashing down.
The book and story itself are well written, when it’s good it’s good. But the “liberties” the author took with geographical locations took me completely out of the world. When you’re referencing very real places, an Indigenous Territories the geography needs to make sense and it didn’t which annoyed me to no end, honestly ask @curiously.Katt she was the unfortunate recipient of my voice memos. I don’t want to go into anymore detail than this incase others want to read it. But this was a big miss for me.
Another thing was the dogs. Why pit bulls, use some other attack dog. They have enough of a bad wrap, it sucks seeing it portrayed as such in a dystopian.

“Which was ridiculous, of course. Creepy is for old Gothic mansions and run-down cabins out in the woods, not cookie-cutter houses in the middle of a subdivision.”
A House With Good Bones by T. Kingfisher
QUICK SUMMARY 🖊️
Sam is on a break from work and since her apartment is being subletted she’s gone to stay with her mom until it’s time to head back.
Sam quickly is surprised and suspicious of the changes to her mother and their house. She believes there’s something more behind it.
FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan-Tor/Forge, Tor Nightfire for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I’ve been a fan of T.Kingfisher since discovering The Twisted Ones, and what that book was lacking for me A House With Good Bones had it. It was a quick read with a great story of a mother / daughter relationship the climax didn’t leave me disappointed.

medium-paced
“Better to knowingly fall for your manipulation than let you make out that there’s a version of the universe in which I can’t dance.”
A Kiss of Iron by Clare Sager
QUICK SUMMARY 🖊️
Kat is on the verge of losing everything after finding her estranged husband has put them in debt. She’s then offered a lucrative position that will pay enough to save herself. But it’s a dangerous game she’s put herself in.
FINAL THOUGHTS
@catsandbookstacks hyped this book so hard I had FOMO and had to read it immediately.
I LOVED THIS BOOK. The plot, the settings, the characters. You know it’s good when this girl stays up until after 1am to finish.
Now the downside. The next one doesn’t come out until September.

“When did I become a person the quality of whose days is determined by whether she eats balls raw or fried?”
Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin
Narrated by Katherine Pucciariello
QUICK SUMMARY 🖊️
In a world after T Day where all men have turned feral, we follow the lives of trans women and trans men while they survive this world.
FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
The concept was there! The execution was not. It was clunky, the gore was too much and the language was too much. You all know me, and if I’m saying this is too much (even @curiously.katt agrees) then it’s too much. I was soooo let down by this one.

I love when I think I have it all figured out, and truly I do have SOMETHINGS but there’s always something that comes from left field with Kubica I didn’t see coming. Another book
I think I would have enjoyed it more in either audiobook OR print, I kept getting confused in ebook which really killed my enjoyment.
