“Do I think they found mermaids? Yes. Of course I do. And I think the mermaids ate them all.”

Into the Drowning Deep
by Mira Grant

QUICK SUMMARY 🖊️
Seven years ago after the Atargatis set sail for the Marianas Trench to film a mockumentary of mythical sea creatures but was lost at sea, not before startling footage was sent to shore.

Seven years, a new crew and new ship set sail to find the answers. Was the footage a hoax? Or is there something beyond our wildest dreams living deep below the surface?

FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
I put this book off for far too long.
Wow. I loved it.
Was there points that it dragged a little? Sure. But it was never to a point where I was bored because I needed answers just as much as everyone else on the ship.
I’m still unsure about the end because I really needed a couple answers on something that I’m not going to say because … spoilers.

Moon of the Crusted Snow

QUICK SUMMARY 🖊️
With winter fast approaching a small northern Anishinaabe goes dark. Food spins starts to dwindle and the Band Council and a small group of community members try to keep the community from chaos.
Soon the community leader ship loses grip on control when outsiders come in and try to manipulate their way into control.

FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
I first listened to this audiobook years ago, and loved it then. Recently I read it with one of my bookclubs and that love has not subsided. With the sequel out in Canada and soon out in the states let this be your sign to read the book.

This winter apocalyptic book is perfect for these cold winter days, where people fight for survival not from the looming dread but for their traditions.

The writing is choppy, the main character is as interesting as watching paint dry and the whole thing is in need of an editor.
fast-paced

In the next few hours, one of three things will happen.
1. We'll be rescued (unlikely).
2.We'll freeze to death (maybe).
3. We'll be eaten by thin and athletic zombies (odds: excellent).

Eat Your Heart Out
by Kelly Devon

QUICK SUMMARY
Six teens find themselves stranded in a fat camp for rich people, where they're snowed in and left with hungry, super thin and athletic zombies.

FINAL THOUGHTS
I'll be totally honest, the cover is what first drew me to this book. Because I mean look at it!
Then fat camp & athletic zombies. To be honest there isn't a whole lot of focus on the actual fat camp because things get underway pretty quickly and continue to move at that pace. Do I love the characters? Not particularly but this was a fun concept, but for a YA novel it hit the nail on the head for that audience.

What Mother Won’t Tell Me
by Ivan Leon Menger

Thank you Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for this electronic copy of #WhatMotherWontTellMe

This book quickly drew me in, although I had suspicions pretty early on of what was happening it made it no less enjoyable in my eyes.
HOWEVER
There was one character that most felt like such a throw away character introduced towards the end of the novel and the ending just felt so rushed and slapped together I was left disappointed considering how quickly I had devoured the rest of the book.

I almost would have liked to see it drawn out more and more develop.
But overall it was an enjoyable and quick thrilling read.

“Me personal belief is that there is far too much we don’t know about the afterlife to try and tell anyone what they should be doing with themselves in it.”

FINAL THOUGHTS 💭
This book came with some people loving it. I am glad, in the group I am not alone in saying…. This book is not it.
It felt like the stories were so shallow and she was telling them in a way to make her sound cool. I would accept this as a rough draft of ideas that really needed a fine tooth comb.
