This was a hard one for me to get into... The first 100 pages were a struggle. I had the same problem with Days of Blood and Starlight, because it developed a little too slowly for my taste after the amazing experience that was Daughter of Smoke and Bone. The story was dragging on a bit and I felt like I was just waiting for the action to begin.

However, after those 100 pages it got really interesting and I didn’t have to force myself anymore to pick this book up and finally get on with it.

There were some very interesting and surprising character developments and also a few “OMG I did not see that coming” moments, which I love 😊.

All by all, a very satisfying read.

I had quite a hard time getting through the first few chapters. As opposed to the first novel, this is written entirely from Tella’s point of view. Suffice to say I wasn’t entirely happy with that in the beginning... After every chapter I was hoping the next would be focused on Scarlett again, but no such luck! 🤭 However, the further I got into the book, the better it got. Heaven knows I’m a sucker for plot twists... 😋

Having said that, I still felt quite deprived of some Scarlett-Julian action 🙄 but then again, there’s always the third instalment! *fingers crossed* 🤞🏼
