In the month of May Vintage released special editions of short stories in honor of Short Story Month. The selections have been great reads. Jhumpa Lahiri's story is no exception. Told from the perspective of a young girl as she adapts to life in America, it is a tale about how the expectations of past traditions run into conflict with living in a new world. The prose is tight and the characters are well written. Perfect read for those looking for substance in a short amount of time.

I don't know when it happened but I seem to be stuck in the land of historical mysteries. No, please, don't worry. I have no desire to leave anytime soon. This was a fun book to read. Thanks to the foundation of the first book, the second book of the Lady Emily series moved along quite smoothly. The characters were just as fun and I thought the mystery was intriguing enough to keep my nose to the pages. I'm hooked and I have a feeling that I'll be reading through the rest of the series quite quickly.

This is an addicting book. From the first page to the last page, I did not want to put the book down. At times, the main character seems clueless, but I'm judging from a modern perspective versus the Victorian perspective. If you need a fun read this summer, I highly recommend the first in this series.
