Some parts I really liked and some parts were a little a slow. I wanted to like it more and the ending did seem a bit abrupt. But the overall themes of generational trauma AND gifts and connectedness were well done. This also allows the reader to make connections to right now, the things we see on the news. Black person gets shot by police because even if they didn’t do a thing wrong, they didn’t “listen”. Just like Major didn’t do anything wrong but was still expected to apologize because he was black and the other man white. And if you really think about the history of the KKK and police…a lot still remains the same when you get down to it. The long history of being expected to comply, be polite, not show anger was apparent throughout all the timelines of this book.
Really loved this one, read it in 3 days.
“If I may, if you have a loved one in your life, write something down about them. Take a picture and record a video and keep them safe for days when your memory could use an extra bit of help.”

I learned a lot reading this, I had never heard of Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune before and realized I really didn’t know much about Eleanor Roosevelt either. Very interesting to me.
