Eh, it was a quick read that kept me entertained. Too many characters that didn’t have a lot of depth so it was very plot-heavy, making it hard to connect to them (though I realize that isn’t a primary focus of thrillers). I see why people like this book so much & I’m glad I read it, but i don’t feel like I’m in the target audience
slow-paced

Other reviewer wrote : “behind every mediocre man there stands a competent woman“ and I thought the same thing. I liked this a lot- confusing at first but how everything intertwined was interesting. I also liked the subject matter and time period

Not my favorite Kristin Hannah book but was a well-done story in a popular genre (WW2 historical fiction). I like how it centers around the resilience of multiple female characters and the intertwining of their plots was cool. The writing is descriptive and immersive. It didn’t blow me away & I wish there was more commentary or themes, but I like the action-packed plot. I can’t comment on the historical accuracy but i enjoyed this for what it is.

Not super memorable and the writing felt slow and pretentious at times. But I enjoyed the complexity / messiness of the characters and I liked the setting of NE college campus in the 80s. Super slow moving. I thought it would be more reflective on the marriage plots of literature & the main character’s thesis based on the synopsis, which was disappointing it wasn’t.

I wanted to like this, but it was pretty boring, characters were not built out very well, and the writing was cringey. This could be enjoyable as a lighthearted mindless summer read but even then there are better options for beach reads.
The friend character was very annoying and unrealistic, and the main characters seemed stunted. The way the author jumped back and forth in time was fine but I didn’t like how slowly things were revealed, making it hard to connect with the characters for most of the book because they were referring to “what happened” but didn’t say more so I wasn’t really rooting for the main characters.
I liked the lake and Toronto settings, and I liked Peter & Annabel as characters which are the 2 redeeming qualities which is why I gave 2 stars.
