I was liking this book right up until the part where the protagonist murders a baby :/

I liked the worldbuilding, but the characters mostly came across as unpleasant Mary Sues.

I wouldn't really call this a *good* book; the pacing is poor, there's a lot of extraneous content, and the characters seem only mildly concerned about the fate of their species being at stake. Even so, I found this book to be awfully sweet, and I enjoyed reading it.
