I'm glad I knew very little of what this book was about when I started it. Choi delivers something special by book's end, something that is wholly different from Trust Exercise but still felt like a gut punch. I was weeping during the final chapters. There was a point during the (nearly 500 page) book that I wondered where this was going, and I was sidelined by some personal events at home, but I'm glad I picked it back up. Truly loved this, and Choi's ability to create these specific and layered characters and weave them into a story about history that I knew very little about--magnificent.

Longer and more coherent review to come!

It was a true delight to spend these hours with Kelly Bishop narrating stories of her life. And what stories! I had no idea about so much of her history; she seems like so much fun, and I also love her outlook on life and her craft.

Halfway through my library copy I knew I had to buy the book. And read the rest of the seven-book collection that isn't even all published in English yet. It's that special existentialism I love from a book; a rumination on time, and while repetitive in its way, I found it increasingly compelling. I discussed it with several friends over the two days I read the 160 pages.
