I don’t even know what to do with myself after finishing this! My heart hurts. The prologue for this book was simply amazing and the writing absolutely captured me and I was hooked. The characters were amazing and the plot kept me turning the pages as fast as I could. I can’t wait to see where the series goes, and hopefully we’ll get to see more of Athan and Aurelia, but I’m also really invested in some of the side characters stories so I hope we get more from them too!
I really enjoyed The Thief! Eugenides is really one of my favorite types of personalities and characters - I've always had a weak spot for the charming and smart-ass characters, and Eugenides is exactly like that! Although I found the plot didn't really pick up until the end, it did feel like there was a lot of set-up for the future books and I overall quite enjoyed this!
The Queen of Attolia definitely has a more serious tone than The Thief, but I definitely though it was a better book. There is a lot more character and plot development, and this book made me feel all the feels! I really only love Gen more (how is that possible!) even when he's going through some rough patches. The writing was so vivid, and the political maneuverings kept me on the edge of my seat! Although I do love the romance between Irene and Eugenides, I do wish it had been developed a bit more.
It seems I just like each book in this series better than the last! Eugenides and Irene are the best thing ever in this book, and I wish we had more of them. Eugenides keeps trying to find his way with being King, and I really liked how the events in this book really revealed more about him and Irene. I think Costis was an interesting character, but he felt a little flat to me compared to Gen so I found myself wishing it was told from his point of view less - although, this made the reveals in this one all the better!
