It seems I just like each book in this series better than the last! Eugenides and Irene are the best thing ever in this book, and I wish we had more of them. Eugenides keeps trying to find his way with being King, and I really liked how the events in this book really revealed more about him and Irene. I think Costis was an interesting character, but he felt a little flat to me compared to Gen so I found myself wishing it was told from his point of view less - although, this made the reveals in this one all the better!
The Queen of Attolia definitely has a more serious tone than The Thief, but I definitely though it was a better book. There is a lot more character and plot development, and this book made me feel all the feels! I really only love Gen more (how is that possible!) even when he's going through some rough patches. The writing was so vivid, and the political maneuverings kept me on the edge of my seat! Although I do love the romance between Irene and Eugenides, I do wish it had been developed a bit more.
