Definitely reads more like a contemporary fiction, and I guessed almost all the twists. Most were quite obvious or tropey, but others were spoiled a page before the reveal, but over explaining.
Also some of the reveals were so much build up for a fee pages of confrontation, so definitely could have done with a little less backstop, and a little more tension, hence the fiction vibes.
However I enjoyed! Easy to read, flew through it, and some darker topics were explored quite well I thought.

This hit so hard.
A bleak, hopeful, upsetting ode to living, growing, yearning.
The definition of simmering female rage.
Extremely memorable

My copy is extremely annotated, here are some gems:

"The velocity with which she continued to speed toward death astounded her"

"I forsake not one thing, not one form of pleasure nor beauty. I will have it all, I will have everything this world can contain or else I will have nothing."

"Conflict-avoidant men,
she thought, as eternal as the tide."

"It is possible to love a person, a place, a time, without wanting to remain there."

"They are 'Just Friends', a category even lower than ordinary acquaintances."

"It can't be possible to yearn for somebody this much and still not have them. But the bed remains empty."

"If she stops concentrating, she fears, she will levitate, nothing left to anchor her to this earth"

i mean.
had a 3 hour drive so chose the first 3 hour audiobook i saw to listen to. Couldn't say no to a short horror collection... Clearly didnt see that it was middle grade, i was not frightened.
Disappointed, but its my own damn fault. Im sure kids would enjoy.
I cant really rate this lol
tbh i did listen to the whole thing, so maybe that says something

Its midnight and I have no idea what to think... idk ?? So good??! This was definitely less of a plot than I'm used to but I mean I was so hooked? But I don't really know?? 4 stars for now but I gotta think on this one

Edit: so so much dysfunction, truly insufferable people. I could not stop reading, just good drama really

Mmm, thought provoking.
The last 100 pages were pretty great, loved the twists, highly unexpected.

Yet another Jane Harper🥰 Patiently waiting for another Faulk book xoxo
