“With every day, and from both sides of my intelligence, the moral and the intellectual, I thus drew steadily nearer to the truth, by whose partial discovery I have been doomed to such a dreadful shipwreck: that man is not truly one, but truly two.”
“The secret to a happiness is a small ego. And a big wallet. Good wine helps, too. But that's not really a secret, is it?”
“Good and evil are so close as to be chained together in the soul.”

This was so lovely, I wish I had read this in my teenage years as it is so highly applicable to my own formative experiences growing up. The format of an interjecting ethical and philosophical reflection continuing adjacent to the main plot is one I haven’t read before but really enjoyed! A few tears were shed, such a a sweet classic.
"I'm afraid there's nothing quite so painful as thinking, What have I done?"
"We have the power to decide on our own who we will be.
Therefore, we will make mistakes.
However -
We have the power to decide on our own who we will be.
Therefore, we can also recover from mistakes"
I could quote this entire book..

Ok didnt technically read this (and i never will) but I watched a 3 hour plot summary and review video which i think is more than enough. - I will, however, never get those 3 hours back😀
Super intense!! Way more graphic and dark than i expected?? But loved it, really gripping + actually a great ending in my opinion despite the high body count as in, i was happy that the last three survived, otherwise that would have just been overkill. Also kinda love the premise of a town that hunts humans for sport, never even considered that, very wild
