This book wasn't awful. I actually did enjoy the story very much. But I rated it three stars because of a couple of things.

1. My biggest issue with this book is the overuse of metaphors. It usually takes me 1-2 days to get through a book but it took me about 4-5 to get through this one because the metaphors were just... too much. It seemed like anywhere and everywhere a metaphor can go, it did and they were so long. Like, whole paragraphs/pages long. It almost killed the book for me.

2. Finch. I would have liked to know more about him considering she spent so much time with him. I know the story isn't about him, its about Alice, but she's with him for more than half of the book and it would've been nice to know why he is the way he is. SPOILER: It did touch on the fact that his father/step mother didn't really pay too much attention to him and that his biological mother has died and how she died but it just didn't seem like enough. I was waiting for some type of bonding moment between the Finch and Alice and I feel like it just didn't happen.

Aside from those things, I did enjoy the book. I liked the mystery leading up to why Alice was the way she was and I really enjoyed the supporting characters.

3.5 stars. For the first like, 10 chapters, I was consistently confused which is why I rated it lower. Towards the end it picked up and I really started to like it.
