There were definitely poems in this collection that I couldn’t fully appreciate, because poetry is not something I know a lot about. Despite that personal lack of knowledge I enjoyed the collection overall!
Beautiful collection of poems. This is the first of Harjo’s work I’ve read and I will be reading everything else I can get my hands on.
I really appreciate that this book focused more on Trevor's life before becoming a celebrity. This wasn't just your usual "behind the scenes hollywood memoir" that I feel like a lot of celebrity memoirs become. The topics and events are so much more serious, but with Trevor's lighthearted delivery and sense of humor to just brush it all off, it still reads in a way that you breeze through it like you're talking with a friend.
I really loved this book! I had a feeling I would like it because I love books about old people. I adore inter-generational connections. But this book exceeded all expectations. It was such a feel good story about community, being lonely, finding friends, finding work life balance. There were so many parts of it that I connected with and I'm really excited to post my full review for the blog tour soon!
I read the ebook on my phone so I don't know that I had the proper breaks and pauses, or that I saw these poems in the format they were intended for, but the prose is amazing nonetheless.
I really loved this book, I honestly think this could become my new favorite series, and definitely in my top 5 favorite series. It actually reminded me a lot a book I read when I was younger that I loved, called Witch Child. This didn't have the same story or format, but I enjoyed the magic behind the more common story of women healers being accused of witchcraft. There were a lot of things that I would wonder and want to know more about, but the pace of the book, and the timing of things being revealed was perfect. I cannot wait for the second book in the series to come out. I went and followed the author on Goodreads before I even finished the book.
The recipes in here are okay. Nothing you couldn’t find on Pinterest. Anything that wasn’t a traditional American dish had zero seasonings included in the recipe besides salt/pepper. So often I ended up googling what kinds of spices should be used and adding it to the recipe.
I have never read a book like this but oh my god. Amazing.
